Would you rather work for an older, more established company with lots of employees, average salary and a slow climb of the ladder to leadership? OR Would you rather work for a relatively new startup with 2000 employees, GREAT salary and quick career progression, but alot of learning because it’s a startup.? P.S. both companies are known across the globe.

The latter. Global recognition means nothing to me. All I care about is $$$

Lol by the way you’re wording this…I think you know your decision.

What startup has 2000 employees? In any case, I’d go startup. The archaic companies will likely still be there. I’d grow quickly in the start-up and then lateral at a Director, Senior Director level

like

Easily the latter, but 2000 employees is not a startup

likesmart

If a company has 2000 employees, its not a startup anymore.

Depends on where you are with your career, family, etc. Personally, I would take option b if I was young and didn't have kids. Now that I have kids, I would take option A simply because I work to live not the other way around.

like

Sure. If WLB is better at Option B, then it wins out. If not, then Option A. Usually Option A will have better WLB but each firm is different. P.S. if a company has 2000 employees, its not a startup anymore.

The second, by a long shot. Currently trying to transition from the first to the second 😂

2000 people is plenty for me to take that. However, change it to 200 and I'd probably go with the former.

like

Well that's awesome. I'm at a point in my career where I care less about raises/bonuses/etc and more about how much time off I get, so when I hear startup I am skeptical that it would be a good fit for me

like

As someone vain, my priorities are to be well compensated AND work for a global brand. If both being equal on the brand awareness, I would go with the startup as I sense there would be much more fluidity in progression and probably more equity.

like

If a decision doesn't scare you at least a little, your aren't challenging yourself enough... You're not growing

If the salary is great and the new firm is growing strong....def that. You can exit to a more established company later with better experience.

Startup :)

Everyone is different, next question

Second option

it will entirely depend on your personality. Question is, do you know yourself?

Currently doing the latter from the first option. Let me tellll youuuuu. It’s a lot of work. Great in terms of a learning curve but the extent of productivity has me burned out faster ? Idk how to explain it ( since tech work life balance may be a tiniest bit better in new role) think I can do it for another 1.5 /2 years max
