I've been thinking about this also. I can't even imagine the tremendous guilt that the teacher must be feeling, but it really shows how just that little action could've bought even a bit more time before he entered. The timeline is chilling too - since it was apparently the minute after she opened the door that she noticed him.
I can’t stop thinking of that teacher who opened the door. I guilty of propping open a door - it had really been upsetting to think of.
I only prop open my door between passing periods. I have started locking my door, BUT, since we're not used to that or required to do it, I put a magnet on the doorframe.
The magnet in the door frame keeps the door slightly ajar. Anytime I need to lock down, I check the hall, and pull the magnet while simultaneously turning off the lights. The door is already locked, so I can quickly help students settle down.
After a student walked in my room and assaulted one of my students, I kept the door locked, no magnet, until I knew we were safe with the assailant in juvy, never to return to our building. This was the worst year for crazy stuff like this!
