McKinsey and BCG, you guys are broken and making us all look bad. Get some talent and some senior people in execution. Stop with the inexperienced nonsense. Quality and results driven work or fold up shop. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/08/22/private-consultants-vaccination-drive-outsourced/

No one is going to die.
Not true - many of our clients work in critical infrastructure industries where our advice can lead to extremely negative outcomes including death. Highly suggest reading when McKinsey comes to town.
Way less. We are not doctors. We are not CEOs
Easiest job that pays this well. No question.

Been saying this for years.
And it gets easier over time 😀
On the spectrum of emergency room surgeon to Miguel Cabrera, I’d say we’re on the less stressful end of the spectrum. As someone already mentioned, no one is going to die. Some of our clients are demanding but we also have a lot of freedom to manage our own schedules and results. Very rarely do we have to face truly hard questions about layoffs or very painful cost cutting measures.
In the grand scheme of things, we’re very well compensated for what we do and the relative level of risk we take on. It’s not $248M to swing a baseball bat (rather poorly) - but it’s still a lot.
The short answer it depends.
What sector?
How deep within the partnership are you?
How is your firm ultimately performing?
Etc etc etc
Agreed, it depends. All consulting partners do not have the same stress or WLB. Highly variable.
Check out the suicide rate amongst lawyers and you have your answer.
As opposed to law and especially accounting, where the client is required to purchase your services?
Each manages stress differently. Biggest difference in consulting is having specific engagement revenue and/or sales targets always looming. Stress in industry roles is heavier on employee management (more responsible for hiring, firing, day to day mgt)
