Texas biglaw: which firms are offering flexibility (at least two days a week of WFH) going forward?
My firm is saying “we aren’t mandating a return but once vaccinated we encourage you to be in the office frequently.” I am still going to WFH twice a week until yelled at but would like to lateral to a firm that’s more flexible.
Have been a L5 PgM at Amazon for one-year and thinking about opportunities to boomerang back at a higher level later on.
Anyone gone back to consulting, or is it better to go to another FAANG before boomerang? I don’t think going to industry at this point makes sense.
Concern on going to another FAANG is getting de-leveled/starting over. L5 is nebulous middle management, and it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle.
Let’s talk growing healthy design team culture. Does anyone have strategies to share for fostering good practices and dynamics in a smaller team that will scale?
I have an offer from PWC India Gurgaon location (Oracle Practice).
How is the work culture there?
Are they calling employees to office. Is work from home allowed ?
Any agencies providing interesting solutions to support parents struggling with childcare?

Anyone else just think about work nonstop?
Think nonstop of how much you dislike consulting, specifically?
Dread every day of work, no matter what’s on the calendar, how many meetings, or how much work you have?
I’m taking great steps to escape, but I’m shocked at how this career did this to me (one career prior to this already)
I know some are complaining about AppleTV now owning the rights to the Peanuts shows, but honestly, I’ve owned the iTunes version for about six or seven years. Network TV had edited them down to add a minute or two of commercials.
That being said:
I joined last week and i got my mail id now. But now how to sign up for the orientation, do we need to send any mail or is there any link where we have to register, plz clarify

Any partners transfer from Big4 or Accenture to MBB and live to tell the tale? Did you like the change? Did you fit with the culture?
Any suggestions on how to get an adjunct teaching role at a university. Don't need money or prestige. I enjoy teaching and gives me something to do when I retire in ~10 yrs. Many colleagues who do this are big alumni donors. My Alma mater is too far away to be practical option. I'm an expert in a very in demand field - get quoted in articles all the time but have not been able to connect with anyone in academia.
McKinsey and BCG, you guys are broken and making us all look bad. Get some talent and some senior people in execution. Stop with the inexperienced nonsense. Quality and results driven work or fold up shop. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/08/22/private-consultants-vaccination-drive-outsourced/
For partners, can you offer me some benchmarks out there for % base vs bonus and total cash comp on upper end?
Not even proud... especially given that my sleep goal isn’t too lavish in the first place. How are you folks coping?

Any folks have interesting alternate investments that do well and you would care to share? (e.g. franchises, non-financial market investments)
Im a fourth year partner. The clients are good, workload is manageable, have a great team and a great boss. But I'm just not motivated to go and kill it anymore. It just feels more of the same thing. Also, I keep having a feeling that I could be doing a lot more if I were in a startup or in a different corporate role. The only reason that stops me from doing any of this is that money here is good and I worked really hard to get here. Any advice?
I'm an Accenture Managing Director considering a move to Deloitte. I've got 15 - 20 yrs possibly left in my career. Any thoughts on Managing Director vs Principal?
Anyone else feel more disconnected from the younger people after mid 40s? I understood their plight, knew the lingo, knew what kind of in-person gatherings would be fun, etc. All of a sudden I feel like I have no idea how to connect. I want them to get off my lawn and I’ve never felt that way before. Just looking for an ear.
Partners - I’m entertaining a couple of offers to join other firms. What are the details you’d look out for in a potential new contract? In my specific case I’m an income partner but welcome insight related to equity to so this thread is more broadly useful.
I’m interested to hear from anyone who has stepped away from being a Partner. I am finding that I simply cannot balance work and personal life and be a good “partner” in both aspects. We’re you able to find a new career which enabled you to fulfil your ambitions whilst being a good husband/wife/parent?
Joining Accenture as a lateral MD next month. Any inputs on how to build network and connect with fellow MDs, especially in a remote setup? Are people open to collaborate with “outsiders” at a senior level, or should I expect friction with people protecting their turf and sticking to their own connections? How is the work culture like at MD level? For context, I will join strat and consulting.
Here’s an entirely unrelated to work question, but one that’s entirely “rooted” in vanity. Has anyone had any experience with Bosley or other hair restoration procedures? If so, what was your experience?
Anyone have a child in Avenues NYC? Thoughts? Worried about English Literacy given they split time with second language immersion. My child is already fluent in Spanish so that is less of a gain.
Took on a much larger and highly visible practice leadership role than I am used to. Suffering from massive imposter syndrome and confidence issues. Any pointers to get thru this?🥶🥵🥺🤢
Partner poll - is COVID causing you to fundamentally rethink whether you want to stay in consulting? Cannot stop thinking about using this disruptive moment to hang my own shingle and do something completely different - buy/start a small business. 22 years in consulting. Partner 7 yrs. Young family.
What do you do for your Senior Managers, Managers and teams during the holidays? Do you buy them all gifts? Holiday party?
Genuine question. How do you feel about a looming recession? What are you ways to prepare for it? What are you telling your teams?

No one is going to die.
Not true - many of our clients work in critical infrastructure industries where our advice can lead to extremely negative outcomes including death. Highly suggest reading when McKinsey comes to town.
Way less. We are not doctors. We are not CEOs
Easiest job that pays this well. No question.
Been saying this for years.
And it gets easier over time 😀
On the spectrum of emergency room surgeon to Miguel Cabrera, I’d say we’re on the less stressful end of the spectrum. As someone already mentioned, no one is going to die. Some of our clients are demanding but we also have a lot of freedom to manage our own schedules and results. Very rarely do we have to face truly hard questions about layoffs or very painful cost cutting measures.
In the grand scheme of things, we’re very well compensated for what we do and the relative level of risk we take on. It’s not $248M to swing a baseball bat (rather poorly) - but it’s still a lot.
The short answer it depends.
How deep within the partnership are you?
How is your firm ultimately performing?
Etc etc etc
Agreed, it depends. All consulting partners do not have the same stress or WLB. Highly variable.
Check out the suicide rate amongst lawyers and you have your answer.
As opposed to law and especially accounting, where the client is required to purchase your services?
Each manages stress differently. Biggest difference in consulting is having specific engagement revenue and/or sales targets always looming. Stress in industry roles is heavier on employee management (more responsible for hiring, firing, day to day mgt)
Any business owner has revenue targets always looming.
