Depends on the sports team
Not if it’s the Pirates 😳 then again Pittsburgh isn’t HCOL…
No. If you like sports then watch sports or play sports. I know people who did this (eg went to work for the Warriors) and immediately regretted it

Any idea of your career progression from the new role? As in, If you get it, what’s the next leg up? Will the 20% cut alter your lifestyle or plans in any meaningful way? Will you enjoy your day to day work life enough with the new role that it makes up for the 20%? From my perspective, these are the questions you need answers to.
Just because you like a topic, doesn’t meet the actual work or work environment will be so awesome that it’s worth a paycut. Eg working in fashion / cosmetics - still major corporations with all the same headaches, issues and shitty work. Doesn’t make it fun because you like the topic

I don't know why you need to take a pay cut.
Everybody wants to do the job so they can go low on salary and still pull great talent
If I had a specific, narrowly defined career goal in sports team strategy, yes. If I'm just looking to exit consulting or just exit my firm, then no.

Which team? Or at least what sports/league?
MLS - no. NBA - yes. MLB - no. NFL - yes.
Fair, but might not be an option. European football has a pretty entrenched feeder system and my understanding is that it extends to the back office.
You might need to start at championship or 3rd tier club (or MLS).
America you don't have the visa issues and there is at least the chance you might ride the wave.
Probably depends on the current base pay and how I’m doing in terms of being able to cover all my expenses (e.g. going from $100k>$80k is a lot different than going from $500k>$400k)
