How do companies now view candidates from Meta?
Hi Everyone,
I just received an offer to work as an software sales representative (SDR) for IBMs Z systems. I'm coming as a sales engineer in the cloud security space. Can anyone advise me on whether Z systems are something worth going into? Also what do the growth opportunities look like at IBM? Is there opportunity for lateral movement onto other teams? Not too sure how I feel about working on mainframes (Z systems) but they keep pitching hybrid cloud to me. IBM

I wouldn’t miss $580 a month too much but depends on your lifestyle. Go for it.
Depends on what % that is. 7k off of 50, ouch. 7k off of 100, do it.
That isn't too bad. I say go for it if it's what you want to do in life.
7k less per month or per year? Per year is negligible after taxes.
After taxes it’s 7k per year
So there are a couple of schools of thought around that. One is to take the job that you love. There is a lot to be said about having a job (and a manager) that you enjoy being around day to day and that may be worth the $7K you are referencing. Secondly, is to take the job that has meaning to you. My experience is that if you fulfill happiness and meaning, then you will excel in your career and the $7K gap will be dissolved before you know it. Of course, look at things like benefits, work from home, company culture, etc. $7K should not change your life, but happiness and meaning will! Best of luck to you!
I got the company to go up another 5k so now it’s just $1.8k less but with the benefits it comes out to the same plus stocks but the company is private for now.
If I see myself there long-term yes.
It really depends if it is per month or per year. If per month then no, not worth it. But per year, I would go for it
This is already after taxes
Life is short, go for it. I'd easily give up 7k to be happier at my job.
Only if it makes you truly happy.
Maybe if benefits and WLB were also good
If it makes me happy and/or they've offered to relook at salary etc after a few months. If I REALLY hated my job, then yeah I'd just take it and worry about the hike later
If the job make you happy and it lines up with the goals you have set for your career and there is opportunities for career advancement. I say go for it 😊
If benefits were good and I liked the people, definitely would consider it
