When is the promotion cycle in IBM?
I anticipate receiving a tentative offer from the DOD. I'm trying to figure out what I should negotiate. All of the listed items below at once? Or would it be wiser to be strategic about what elements to try to get first? Any inputs are greatly appreciated.
1. Salary
2. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Expenses
3. Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)
4. Signing Bonus
5. Annual Leave: Rate of Accrual

If I think back to my early career, one of the best decisions I made was to turn down a role with a 50% pay raise (it was a counter-offer) - not because of clients, but because of the learning opportunity in the new role. I haven't regretted it once and I've followed a similar decision process with every role since.
So, my advice: Forget about the clients themselves - they'll come and go. Instead think about the learning opportunity and whether it will advance you on that front towards where you want to go in the long run. Might lead to the same outcome but I think the rationale is important.
Right on, MD1. Be curious, be open-minded to opportunity. Taking an uninteresting client/category/ brand and making it interesting is truly exciting, truly making a difference, and truly the kind of achievement that impresses down the road. After all, 10 years ago, lots of people would have found Old Spice uninteresting. Our job is to MAKE them interesting.
Yes. You don't usually get to pick your clients anyway when working at an agency. And it will probably help your resume by showing you can work with un-cool clients, too.
Yeah! Unless you were so underpaid that 50% only gets you to where you need to be. If that’s the case I would entertain other jobs as well if you’re not that into this one.
Hell yes.
yes
Yes - you’d be surprised at how the most boring clients can be the best ones!
Yes. You have to find interest in the actual work being done, your teammates, opportunities to grow and learn, etc vs the clients themselves bc clients will always come and go.
Pretty much always- that’s a huge raise. If in your gut you know you’re going to be miserable doing the work, just consider doing it for a year and have an exit strategy. Also, are they just throwing money at the role bc it’s a nightmare in terms of work overload, disorganization, and client?
What they said.

Oh helllll yeah.
I would absolutely get interested in the client for a 50% pay raise. It’s not like you have to work on it forever either.
Yes. You can get a feel of how long you might need to be on it as well during the interview process, how much new business comes in, etc which will give you a feel of staffing. But yes take the $$$
YES
Yes I would
Uh, YES! And even if you’re not interested in the content, the clients and/or team could be nice/fun/easy to work with, so make sure your invested in those parts to offset your reservations with the content. Where I could see it not being a “deal” would be if the content was boring, you didn’t like your team AND your clients were awful.
Exactly this. I’ve enjoyed working on some accounts that I normally wouldn’t be into because the team & clients were GREAT. Having really positive colleagues, and especially clients, drastically improves your mental outlook.
