Yes because money? Wtf is wrong with people.
You realize a sign on bonus and relocation is a one time payment. With a 50% increase it should cover all of your expenses for relocating and the sign on bonus is a nice cherry on top you can forget about
Good advice. That’s what I was thinking. I literally have nothing to move so I just gotta buy a plane ticket and leave.
Need more details. Where are you relocating to? What industry? What level? How many YOE?
Relocating to NYC. The pay is good for NYC. It’s a Software Engineering position. 4 YOE.
What is your salary? A 50% pay increase means different things depending on what your current base salary is. A relocation can cost several thousand dollars and signing bonuses can be pretty substantial.
My base pay is as low as you can expect for a software engineer :( around 60k
NYC is expensive so 50% might not mean much. What is the offer amount?
I think it’s a decent pay for NYC. I did the math with rent and Cost of living included and I’ll be saving enough money. Right now I save 0.
That’s a win-win then OP. I wouldn’t look back.
If you plan to stay at this job more than a year then yes, seems to make sense. I would rather have in the base than in other comp forms. If you like the job and co and want to do NYC and all is aligning, then do it. If you have to, put an Airbnb on a credit card for a month outside the city and wait until that first paycheck to actually move yourself. Or store your stuff where you live now, get an apartment in NYC and move it all when you have the cash. There are options to absorb the short term hit so that you can do it
Got it OP. Glad you don’t have stuff - that helps. Would do credit card if you gotta knowing it will be very short term and fixed in 1-2 months - you can link a credit card to PayPal so many landlords will take a paypal payment etc.
Think that it’s smart to Airbnb anyway and hunt down a good deal in neighborhood you want. I’ve always found i get better deals and better places when I live in the city I’m looking to rent in. Good luck!
Also, relocation and sign-on are paid back if you choose to leave sooner, so why not max the base pay option?
Yes. It’s a simple math equation. This would be a lot more money.
Considering the rent, transportation, and taxes. That 50% will get eaten up in new York
