Hey Fishes! Does MBA give an upper edge (or is essential) in terms of better job opportunities and salary if one wants to create a career in B2B Marketing? Given already I am working in that domain without an MBA. Do hiring companies weigh on the MBA degree?

I’m in a bit of a conundrum. I am the Marketing Director in a space where they have never had marketing before. I created a new website, a shorter domain for emails etc and I manage all social media, advertising, creative, brand awareness etc. my boss is constantly challenging me on sales. Our analytics have increased by about 30% on all platforms and he wants to “fire” or get out of advertising contracts because he wants people in the doors for sales. I am having a hard time reflecting my worth

What is the worst habit you had when you were younger/starting out that you have managed to kick? I used to say um a lottt, and it was nice when someone brought it to my attention but took ages to get over.

What's your goal for the next few months, and what progress have you made?

Can someone help me understand why FDD gets paid less than other M&A groups? I was looking at our FY22 market rates we are one of the highest charging practices in comparison to other Deals competencies (e.g., Valuation, Strategy, Data Analytics, Restructuring, etc.)

Are bonuses (%) within FDD generally the same across Big4? Curious what standard % is for seniors and managers

I'm currently a mid-level associate in a Big Law firm and am about to finish a 6-month secondment with a large international corporation. I'm also looking for in-house positions. Should I add my secondment experience to my resume/LinkedIn profile? I've never seen anyone do this but it seems like something that would be appealing to in-house employers. Just wondering about the best way to highlight this experience for in-house positions.

CCPA- One month from enforcement. Where is everyone at in the process? What was your experience in getting compliant?

I’m currently on a secondment to a client in a lit/regulatory role and this is so much better than life at a firm, I love it here. What are the downsides that I’m not seeing? Is it just the money or are these positions just really hard to get?

Anyone have any professional development/leadership books they’d recommend? Doesn’t have to be lawyer or in-house related specifically, just something you found helpful. I just finished Deep Work and found some aspects helpful, but others not applicable to in-house counsel life.

Do you all think it’s possible to transition to in house after being in the government, specifically from a DA’s office in NYC? I have been thinking of transitioning and wanted to know if it was possible to look into that

How much does in house counsel at a place like Chevron, Exxon, or Total make? There are some open positions, and I’m very interested in getting out of biglaw, but I don’t know if I can afford a large paycut without paying off leans for a few more years…

I went in-house at year 4 — now at year 5. I feel like my growth has stunted and I’m not learning and growing my skill set. I don’t think I was very seasoned when I went in-house, was just very burnt out from big law. Can I go back to firm life to gain more skills then go back? WLB and everything else is great. Just don’t feel like I’m growing…!

After trying to find an in-house job since July, I finally have an offer at a company that I really like. Total comp is around $20-25k off from where I want to be. Equity comp may be the only way to bridge the gap but they said they don’t normally include equity comp at the corporate counsel level, which is odd. I have found that most companies do. Has anyone received equity comp in negotiations where it wasn’t originally on the table?

Been told by two partners that my leaving as a 4th year (3.5 years behind me) is too early for my development. The job I’m taking seems great with a great GC and good team. But I’m questioning if the right decision. Won’t go back on the offer but just wondering ...

I have to fly cross country in a few weeks. First time flying for this job (been here a year). I’m allowed to fly business if I want (im the GC). Company isn’t killing it financially right now. Price difference is about $2,500 and I’ve done coach plenty of times on this route at my old job (law firm). Would anyone say no to business class?

Can you have good WLB while working in a small (<10 attorneys) legal department? I’ve only ever worked at large companies with large legal departments. I’m worried taking vacations would be hard at a very small company since there are fewer people to cover for you.

I am applying to some in-house positions at tech companies and was pressed in one screener interview to say what I thought my base salary should be. I’m curious what an acceptable answer would be?

I have 6 years experience in Big Law. Focused primarily on patent litigation. Applying to roles in the Bay Area. Primarily applied to roles focused on general litigation and IP litigation. I’ve applied to tech companies ranging from FAANG to start-ups.

How different is litigating in-house vs. in private practice? I’m tired of litigating in private practice and am contemplating a move to an in-house litigation role with a public university—but the pay will definitely be less, so I don’t want to make the switch if it is going to just be the same hamster wheel. Any one made the jump and have thoughts/advice?

If you handle data privacy, but it isn’t your main in-house role, do you have some data privacy title designation? If so, what is it? I’ve seen “Legal Counsel and Data Privacy Manager” used.

Anyone relate to this or have advice? I’m about to quit big law and want to go in house after a few months of recharge. Applying for some in-house M&A jobs, and a big focus is being able to run deals. I of course feel very comfortable running deals from the corporate side and managing multiple teams, but have obviously always had an army of specialists in biglaw. How does this work in house? I’m primarily thinking from a tax perspective — I likely wouldn’t be able to structure a deal (and don’t think many of my peers could either) since we always rely on a tax team, but not sure if that is an expectation.
