WOW… just WOW

EYUK FAAS bonus at m1?
Hi, I am from a non-tech background and got offers from a Cybersecurity startup and Amazon for a Risk Analyst role (more general security than cybersecurity). I aim to start a career pivoted towards cybersecurity. But not sure which would be a wise choice given the startup will offer me learning opportunities tailored to the role, however Amazon would be a great addition to the profile and a bigger pay of course. Would be happy to have thoughts from professionals here!
What is the career hierarchy in PwC AC/SDC?
Hi Friends! I have a situation here. I am working in a startup company where there is no proper process at all. I am now leaving and I have requested relieving letter and experience letter with roles and responsibilities mentioned in that. But the manger is telling that he can provide only relieving letter which I can use as experience letter also. But in most of the companies, they are asking relieving & Exp letters. What should I do now?Tata Consultancy

Common compensation for engineering roles. Also more than half of that yearly compensation will be variable (equity + bonus) so your mileage may vary, especially with the wild markets. Oh and has to be mentioned that to be hired in an Eng role at these companies you are absolutely a rockstar with special skills.
First of all, a senior software engineer at Netflix making $550k is a massive lowball. I’d expect closer to mid-700k.
Lead data engineer at Airbnb making $575k sounds about right, but def could’ve negotiated to $700k, unless he’s including the recent stock drop as part of TC and not just refresher count.

@PO1 it may or may not buy you a decent house in the Bay Area.

Outlier. Plain and simple. They also have very specialized data engineering skills. Those of us spending time making slides and handling status/steerco meetings need not concern ourselves with something like this.
This is a very possible comp trajectory. A couple of thoughts:
- Netflix comp is known to be top tier even relative to big tech
- It's more common to hover in mid-level roles longer, so OP is a high performer
For those interested, this is Zach Wilson's post on LinkedIn.
More like all crash now
This isn’t real lol. 7 year trajectory to ~$600k OTE? No way.

MBB, OW, S&, Kearney, LEK (I assume), A&M, Alix, and perhaps a few others would pay that at pre-partner levels. It’s definitely on the high end but so is this Netflix salary

There is nothing surprising about this tbh, plenty of people in similar shoes. At senior levels (5+ yoe) at the top tech companies that’s what it is (maybe a bit more in his case, but 400-600 is about right).
Coach
Well you can be a senior consultant with 2 yoe at some places so why not.
The legal industry, specifically Biglaw, is transparent in their lockstep compensation for associates (non-Partners). The trajectory is similar. My cousin is entering their 8th year and is expecting to earn somewhere between $600-700k TC. Caveat of course is that it requires 3 additional years of law school.
Is your husband available?
I’ll confirm with my wife.
Man I am in the wrong profession
Swap those vlookups with index.map(), then profit
I am more surprised that so many people don’t know that qualified SWEs make this much.
I refuse to believe this haha.
It’s always the people making over $250k that think “comp should be less taboo” to talk about lmao
In my case went from 100k to 500k in 6 years. It did take a M7 MBA, move to SF, and a crazy COVID-induced stock run up though
So I guess I have to switch to tech then.
This is 100% believable. The jump to Facebook really facilitated the growth here.
Not loving the stagnant growth from 2019 - present
I have a similar trajectory going from industry to BCG back to industry
Tech eng/sales is the best kept secret. Friends always surprised by how much you make selling or building software.
5 companies in 7 years is the wow to me. Talk about a flight risk.
Coach
Well one was an internship and another super low paying entry level job. The rest of the moves are pretty typical for anyone in SV though.
I think you should talk to someone who works in data engineering before you think this is a good salary. This is not nearly enough to make me want to get into DE. Those people are treated like garbage in tech, everyone is mad at them all the time.
Or you can just save your money and retire after a few years vs working for 30 in a “prestigious” job. Prestige that doesn’t pay 💰 means nothing
Seems legit
It takes a long time to make L6, this is not a 7YOE trajectory
Wonder what that comp looks like now with current Netflix stock price
netflix lets you choose the % of comp you want in cash or RSU. so could be all cash comp and not impacted by stock price
i saw the exact same post too it’s the truth in technology
