I had this issue with my counterpart from another firm —- constantly interrupting me, either to correct or “clarify,” when I wasn’t finished articulating what I was trying to say. My director/PML suggested that I just don’t stop talking/get a little louder.
At first I thought the suggestion was borderline ludicrous but-
So far it’s worked.
I have things to say and I live alone! I need to talk!
I’m guilty of this and I hate it. But as a female, I’m always bulldozed over. So I have to speak up quickly, especially when I notice people start rambling.
I’ve noticed this with a specific group of colleagues and it’s driving me crazy. Today I had to emulate Kamala and say “excuse me, I’m still speaking”, it worked but I can’t believe I had to say that
Some people converse like they're playing tennis. Others like they're playing basketball.
Just different ways of talking, usually due to cultural or familial differences
One thing that’s helpful is, even if someone interrupts you continue talking (but louder) as if nothing happened.
Some of it could be people struggling with picking up non-verbal cues on zoom and not knowing when to jump in.
That reminds me of a previous project… 😂
