“Incoming” = I haven’t done shit yet

Or whether I’m incoming or there already.

100% stupidest shit ever - speaking of which, I’m so excited to share that I am about to board my plane to go back home! Shout out to SM, D and P for believing me this week it’s been a long journey but needless to say it was worth it

Is it like when people put “,MBA” after their name? I had a mentor that told me not to do that for similar reasons.

It’s more or less a humble brag of what you do, rather just doing it the subtle way of updating your title and having that sent out

I just graduated college and think it’s heinous. I played a D1 sport and made that same announcement on Twitter when I signed with my college. Did it because I worked my tail off to accomplish my dream for 10 years of playing at the highest collegiate level. Find me a 22 year old who has dreamed of working at Deloitte for the past 10 years..

likefunny

Eh, SC5 I don’t think you can compare playing a D1 sport to getting a normal job. C2 has a point imo

OP - I’m 32 and I agree. So much attention seeking. Those posts make me feel old and grouchy - very boomer ish and not like a millennial lol.

Chill. If you don’t like it, just scroll away or don’t use LinkedIn. That’s the new norm, you don’t have to like it.

Or... we can mock these self-important, insufferable narcissists. After all, thats how we maintain community standards and try to instill a sense of propriety.

Pretty sure it is a canned message that is given to employees after they receive their offer or what not. Spams linkedin and increased visibility...marketing 101?

like

C2 - I would argue they have worked their tail off for at a minimum, 8 years (high school and college all being very important as to the college and hence the job opportunities you have), and they are proud they landed what is by any objective measure, a great job. Making the American average household income in Day 1 as a 22-23 year old. That is a hell of an accomplishment.

I think everyone getting worked up about it should slow your roll and allow people to celebrate their milestones.

like

I can’t argue against your making the american average household income day 1. My point is what high school freshman / sophomore dreams of being a consultant? They might dream of having a well paying job, but not being assurance staff at Big4. College sophomore is where I can see your argument valid. That’s when I realized I needed to do something with my life besides play a sport. I was ecstatic the day I got my offer - but did not compare to the feeling of accomplishment I had when I signed for college

The electric city!

I’m humbled and grateful to all the mentors, teachers and friends over the years who have taken me to this point, when I was able to select a Greek salad with chicken.

On a related note, is it equally as frowned upon to post “Today was my last day at Firm XYZ. Truly grateful for the learning experiences and wonderful colleagues... Looking forward to the next chapter!” ???

Asking for a friend...

It feels a little too self ingratiating to me. I have found that people who either weren’t that good or who aren’t genuine tend to post those messages. The rest just call
1:1, write a private note, and sometimes send the standard farewell email and then quietly, gracefully exit.

like

Yea I cringe when I see the incoming assurance staff 1, you’re life is just about to get brutal

likefunny

Guess I’m the exception here. Have no issues with it, just scroll past. Someone wants to celebrate the things that matter to them more power to them

It is the “facebookification” of LinkedIn
I’m considering dumping LinkedIn due to the posts of kids, posts of achieving certifications, etc. - stuff that is great for the person professionally and personally that are NOT applicable to business networking.

Here’s some unsolicited advice for junior account folks: turning on your camera with your team and ESPECIALLY upper level management is a good thing, and still counts as “face time”. We’ve noticed that the more senior a call, the more faces we see. Be a leader, show up, and turn your camera on.

We’ve been seeing eachother for almost a year (minus 3 apart) and I really don’t see a future with him but I would use him to experiment. BAD IDEA?!
