As Jay-Z so eloquently put it: on to the next one!

Agreed! I would personally start to look for other things - never put your eggs in one basket!

If it’s something you’re really suited for then be on them like white on rice!!!!!! I was in the same boat! It’s a brand new position within the company. I’ve been waiting for a little over a month after the first verbal agreement. But my company has been expanding at an insane rate so I know everyone is busy and dealing with a million things. Just got my official title change to “Director” today because I asked earlier in the week if it’d be possible to have the written agreement by the end of this week. They told me yes and after sending out a follow up email this morning, I called to confirm that is was received. I asked if it could be sent over and finalized by the morning and I was told yes. They sent it over just an hour ago 😅 Good luck!!

As long as they are still giving you updates and not ghosting! Check in and try and get more concrete information. Could be as simple as letting them know you are still excited, and wanted to follow up on timeline so you can start making arrangements with your current employer.
In the meantime keep your search active, sometimes the new roles don't receive approvals to become reality.

Thank you! I have actually been using almost that exact language, but am just told they'll let me know

I know the immediate answer is going to be that this a red flag and to give up most likely, but hear me out.

This job would pay likely 30-50 percent more than I make now, and I'm pretty miserable in my current job to where I've considered quitting despite not having anything truly lined up yet.

I've also read online that this company is pretty bad generally in the prehire phase but amazing once you actually work there.

If it were any other company, I would have backed out looong ago. But the company is a "dream company" for me and it's the exact role I want.

So more context: around a month ago, I was given a verbal offer as far as saying they are going to hire me and really want me. However, they're hiring me into a brand new role vs the one I interviewed for. This new role is even more suited to my skills. Since the role was still awaiting approvals and essentially didn't exist yet, I was aware that it'd take some time to get an actual offer.

I didn't think it'd take a month to get some base details at least in writing though, as I was told it should be a week or two originally. I will note, I always get a reply when I check in so I'm not being ghosted. I'm just told each time that I'll be notified when there's more info.

Should I bother to keep checking in every 10-14 days? Or just give up and go for a 'hope for the best, prepare for the worst' mindset when it comes to getting a real offer?

Additional note: I have been continuing to look for other roles, but haven't found much of interest in the last few weeks to even apply to.

Keep looking

Wondering now if it would be appropriate to ask for a deadline by now rather than a timeline? And how to word that ask if so?

I’ve always wondered, how do you guys wear white shirts? It’s like 90% of the time, the bra will show through 🤣

I still fall for recruiter bs. "Amazing opportunity to work with the best in the industry." Actually it's a mid-weight UX role for pwc, and 10min into the call she asks: "So do you have a portfolio?"

I recently joined a company that is male dominated. During dessert time, while all the associates were networking a male colleague asked me out of nowhere & in front of everyone “are you wearing a religious dress?”. I do dress conservatively and I’m proud of how I represent myself. But, I was offended since his comment was openly racist + I’m a new employee too! Q: is this common to hear when working with men? How can I develop thick skin for bullshit comments from men like this?

It's painful waiting on industry job start date (1 month down waiting, 1 month to go)... Like I've enjoyed my time at my firm and everything, but every week I work here I'm making 29% of what I would be if I was at my new company already... First world problems but the struggle is real

Additional Posts in Human Resources

Hi everyone! Just looking for some insight. I’m about 4 years into HR, have my bachelors. I’ve been toying around with the idea of getting my masters in something relating to compliance/labor law and that side of HR. Shrm certification is also on my list. If anyone has some advice on what to get a masters in specifically, I’d be open to suggestions! I’m trying to find something that would be worth my while and would give me a step up. Thanks!

Interested to see some perspectives - currently working at a Payroll & Benefits Specialist at a fast growing company and recently passed my PHR! I just started this role only a few months ago but am already feeling like I can take on more, but not as much as a HR manager. I’m struggling to understand where exactly it is I can go from here. I’m 25, have 3 years of experience, and get paid $59k/year.

Where does one go from here? Thanks in advance for any and all answers!

I’m currently in campus recruiting&really would love to move to a new organization, however, Im pregnant&am expecting in January. I feel like no one will consider my candidacy seriously after hearing i am expecting. I know hiring managers can’t discriminate against hiring me because I’m pregnant, but I also dont want to be dishonest that if I start anything, I would be heading out on maternity shortly. How would you proceed? Suck it up being miserable at current company and try the switch after?

Alvarez & Marsal Super specific question: Anyone know if Alvarez & Marsal’s background check for SUPPORT ROLES (e.g., internal IT) includes a credit check?

A little paranoid because I had an offer for an internal support role with a bank a few months ago rescinded due to 2 collections accounts from my college days (6 years old, about to fall off my credit report… pls don’t judge me lol).

An employee asked me this about a friend of hers. Any feedback? : : If a person has a potential case (sexual assault) against a higher up in their company and they are wanting to go to HR for it, but the police have suggested not to go to HR for investigation reasons, but the person is struggling to do their job due to consistently being uncomfortable in interactions with the higher up in the company..... What are the HR requirements of confidentiality? Who other than HR

I’m interested in getting a certificate in HR rather than going the SHRM or HRCI route. Do you believe that Certificates in HR are recognized just the same way as HR certifications?

Hi, I’m looking for an entry level HR position where there is room to learn and grow! Open to remote, hybrid, or in office! Please help!

I posted a little while ago but I have noticed a number of compliance issues with my current org - not using imputed income for domestic partnerships, tons of I9s not filled out correctly, snd remote employees tax withholdings not being updated to the state they live. I’ve brought them all up with my supervisor but nothings happened. I don’t wanna get caught up in an audit. Should I send some sort of official letter or just resign and look for a new gig?

Considering a change from a smaller tech company to a huge tech organization (think Intel, Oracle, Salesforce, Microsoft, etc.). I’m attracted to the idea of working with more structure and having others around me to learn from and share knowledge with. Right now I’m the only one at my company with my specific expertise and worry my learning and growth is being stalled because of it. Any advice from those working at these tech behemoths on taking that plunge?

Know someone earlier in their HR career that’s looking to get certified. It’s been a while since I originally took the exams and have just recertified since. Which is more valuable or preferred these days…PHR or SHRM-CP?

I’m trying to learn more about what it’s like to work at a start up and how I can align my skills and experiences through connections on LinkedIn. Any suggestions on what type of questions to ask?
