Hire the people with the skills you need. If you consider color, you are not racist (because color is not race), you are stupid.
Some of the most skilled, nicest people I know are black. But they were way more important to me for their skills and attitude than their skin color.
HR is not a game of Pokemon. It's about people.
Arrogance, bad grammar, bad ideas, suspect opinions, and a refusal to be honest and forthright. Also calling people “blacks” and “girls” continues to amaze me. When people ask me why conscious inclusion training should be mandatory, I will look back on this thread and have ample evidence. So, thank you for that! 🙏🏽
This post is why the poster is needed.
She's was involved with MAIP when she was part of the 4A's. (This is me showing my age). But whatever, talk to Tiffany and she's guide you on the importance of diversity.
You don’t get it 🤔
Innovation is the clash of differences. It’s not about finding “only one type of person” it’s about bringing in different, fresh perspectives to come up with unexpected solutions - in an industry that survives on innovative ideas.
We need the perspectives of men, women, POC, genXYZs, boomers. Right now we’re over indexing one one style of person.
Those fresh perspectives are hard to find. So someone created a list. These lists simply stem from an overwhelming demand for different perspectives.
How many times do we see a photo spread of Black talent in this industry — in AdWeek or AdAge or anywhere? Here we have a celebration that counters the “we can’t find any” and it is met with the equivalent of #AllLivesMatter.
You can tell when people value diversity and see it as a resource when they do not shut it down. When they do not deny that race and ethnicity aren’t meaningful — because they themselves don’t have to deal with it —- and when they understand that when you shut down a person’s point of view and lived experience you are marginalizing them. There’s no where to go, no bridge possible — and it’s impossible to be an ally or helpful if you don’t know what the other person needs.
Being brilliant people manifests differently — and the problem is when the brilliance is in the eye of a beholder who cannot see your brilliance because it isn’t in their own image.
Color blindness is not the point of equity or inclusion. In fact claiming it makes equity and inclusion impossible. (And it is impossible not to see and have default reactions based on race...) People who really care about these issues and other people don’t shut them down, and they actually bother to try to understand and learn. In this culture and environment with all of the complexities of race affecting this country, people who actually care bother to pay attention.
The person who started this post, and VP OP, are examples of people who could benefit from more self awareness. Ignorance these days is a choice.
You may want to read that again.
Ok boomer.
Are boomers still at work 🤔
Not a Boomer. Just someone who thinks the issue deserves more thought than some flippant cliche.
