Year 3 here. Lateraled from a boutique firm, I heard people talking behind my back negatively, saying I dont catch up with the firm culture (it's V20). It's a small firm of 12 (in Asia), and already heard it from 2 different sources. Should I leave?

No. Year 3 is early, plenty of time to catch up with and surpass your peers substantively if that’s what you want. Not sure what to tell you about cultural fit, but I’d try and give it at least a year, people (or you) may come around as yall get to know each other better.

I mean if you enjoy the firm and work otherwise, absolutely not. They hired you and you come as you are.

Wait till they say it to your face 😜. Sounds like gossipy associates to me.

Don’t let anyone get in the way of your money or career. Let them spend their billable time thinking about you.

If you don’t have 8 hours of billable time a day, do you leave as is or do you fill in the gap with non-billable work? While I am in the office, I don’t always get the billable amount since I don’t have enough work. Seems like a waste of time to enter non-billable time just to fill in the gap but I also don’t want them to think I am not there and slacking off.

Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.
