I’m convinced that “implementations” are more challenging than “strategy” consulting. Having done both, the nuances associated with having to figure out every last detail in implementations makes the work significantly more challenging than painting high-level strategy in what is often broad brushstrokes filled with assumptions.
How hard do you push interns? An intern told me that a task took 4 solid hours, which seemed very high for the output provided. I checked the file version history, and there are a few 30-60 min breaks, and 80% of the task was obviously done in the hour before a check-in deadline. How, and how harshly should I push them on this discrepancy? Before you ask, this was a data transformation task that happens 100% in the same file, with no need to Google, use other files, ask for help, etc.
Give me the toughest advice you've learned so far. Save the woo woo self help crap for LinkedIn.
Looks like a massive Exodus happened in Deloitte? Trying to staff a project and there is literally no one to staff with (at least Salesforce practice) and we are having to reach out to contractors. Is this a result of layoffs that happened last year and folks are purely unhappy with pay (not considering project pressure as that can vary/be subjective)? For folks who have been here for a long time, is this a common occurrence or is it especially bad this time around?
Can someone explain this sense of entitlement by the younger generation? When I hear the younger gen complaining that they aren't getting paid enough when they start at 70k which is more than some experienced hires.....I just don't understand.
Best travel fails you’ve seen? New BA on project... told him the client name and project was in Rochester NY. He calls and says taxi won’t take him to client site. He had landed at LGA 🤦♂️
Project is asking me to travel the week my wife is due to have a baby or else get an exemption from HR. Is this normal or is my firm just not supportive? KPMG if anyone is looking to join.
I consider myself a gen xer. I feel that in the past, longevity and loyalty to a company was the trend. Now, i see ppl with resumes and they stay for less than a year in a job and change jobs constantly. The younger generation and are so eager to move up the ladder. I wonder if the move up is too fast and is really justified. Or perhaps the younger generation feels a lot more entitled and are more aggressive. Thoughts?
Advice- I am new to consulting/Accenture from industry, I have been asked to charge 40/45 hrs a week but I get all my work done in less than 20 hrs. As a Christian I charged the exact hours worked which is 18hrs but my SM is not happy with that. What am I supposed to do? Any one ever have this issue of finishing tasks in less time?
My client just told me not to sign an email with: Best, [my name] He said that it needs to be best wishes, best regards, etc. has anyone ever heard of this?!?
My manager is asking the entire team to work the weekend to hit a Monday deadline. Thinking of asking for Monday and Tuesday off next week in exchange? This seems reasonable to me. Managers would you annoyed with this response or request?
3 months into consulting and got introduced as the expert on something I didn’t know existed before January
Project wants to keep me on even though I do nothing all day. I mean I literally sit and watch YouTube videos from 9:30am to 3pm and check out to the hotel. Client loves me. WTF do I do I’m trapped
Tips for working smarter instead of harder?
Unpopular opinion: Late night projects don't suck, the people you're working with just suck. One of my favourite projects had 12-1am nights for a month straight and was tough but I was genuinely friends with my colleagues and manager that it was just fun being on the project and working with them. Thoughts?
Has consulting lost its luster? Anyone notice the declining caliber of talent in consulting? …
Please advise: Sent an email to a partner explaining that I want to take a step back in an initiative because project has been long hours, and I wanted to focus my energy on something else I’m more interested in, and offered to help the next person to transition. Got a reply saying I’d advise to say no up front rather than making commitments I cannot keep. I’m so upset that I cried. WLB has been hard and it was not easy making this decision. What do I reply? Don’t want to leave on bad terms.

I often wonder if the inability to have week night dates is hurting my chances. What does everyone else do here?
What's REALLY the point of PPTs? Is the amount of hours aligning shapes and text in it worth it at all? Wouldn't projects go along a lot faster if we just distributed printed memos instead?

The struggle: traveling all week is brutal and you just want to sleep in your own bed for a few days, but SO is so bored from their non-travel job that they want to get away on weekends... 😫
