We are commodities. I've known sex workers that get treated with more professional respect than creatives.
When I freelanced, I made one agency pay for booking me and then ghosting me on the project. I bailed them out a lot and had some leverage but our time is just as valuable as theirs.
How on earth did you do that
Always
Or just ghosting you more often...I think it’s just everyone covering their asses, which I get, but have the common decency to communicate with us like we’re people not commodities.
And if they already know somebody doesn't meet the criteria, they shouldn't contact them or string them along. Until the criteria change.
It sounds like—and this is not to sound dickish, just to offer closure—it sounds like the recruiter reached out to find out who was available, ran the names past somebody (probably the CDs), they picked someone else, and now its up to the recruiter to think of something to say to the people who werent picked. (Which would probably be nothing, except you wrote back checking in.)
It doesnt mean your work was bad, they probably just picked someone who had been in there before that they didnt know was available. Sorry its lame. Better luck next time.
This is my life.
