You just finished teaching a skill / topic in your lesson. Children are now off to work on that skill independently: who are you targeting first to support, your students in the red or your students in the yellow?

Check in with the yellow so you know they know what they are doing then work with the red. OR: pair the yellow with green to answer questions, concentrate on the red.

I didn’t mean for them to work together, I just meant that the green students could answer the occasional questions that the yellow students have, questions for individually partnered yellow students. Plus the green students will, generally speaking, be done first & then have nothing to do, this strategy will help to keep them busy. Trust me, I also was the green student & helping other students is part of the reason I’m now a teacher.

I would have the students in the red watch me work with the yellow. It gives them an additional model and time to process. Then, I’d go work with red, and yellow (and green) should be on track to work together or independently.

That’s really smart, I like the idea of being able to watch me do it again with a student so they get double the instruction.

Sometimes I take green first (quick 10 min or so) giving yellow and red a chance to at least try so that I can see mistakes ...I teach math. I will teach green a challenge game or activity that they will go to when they finish the assignment. I then will focus on pulling kids from the other two groups. Sometimes when yellow gets the concept I have them pair check with green and green teaches them the directions for the game. I switch it up all the time.

I probably would have called on red first. They would have been the center of attention, in case they had a hard time I would call on yellow and green would be last.

For initial practice, kids would be in pairs of differing skill level. I would scan for misconceptions and address the whole group, then help the small pockets of those experiencing trouble.

My main focus is on reds, but will hop back and forth to check in on yellows and greens to make sure all is well and clear up any confusion. I try to group them based on complementary strengths and weaknesses so they can also help each other.

To all the post-9/11 veterans, it’s a somber day that unites us all in the reason we fought. It’s easy to forget - especially with the younger generation having 9/11 be a history lesson rather than something they lived through. The waters became muddy with two wars and politicians, but you all stepped up and did your duty. Thank you all for your service, it’s an honor whether we crossed paths or not.

I use to enjoy pulling together lessons using a variety of resources, and not using textbooks or ready made curriculum. I just used the standards. These days, I’m finding that my online students find a set curriculum easier to navigate. I’m finding it easier to keep organized online. Anyone else having a similar experience?

Curious to know if there are folks out there who are genuinely scared of driving like me? I’m in my early 30s and I’ve been terrified of getting my driver’s license for years because it seems everyone drives so fast and I’m scared of crashing. This is now starting to affect my relationship because my s/o thinks I’m just lazy to get the license when I’ve reiterated that I’m scared and even tried doing lessons but i wasn’t comfortable. How does one overcome this fear?
