A2- she isn't saying that it shattered her and made her cry. She is just pointing out how we sometimes still feel like guests in our own offices where we are doing the same work yet sometimes feeling invisible
Welcome to grown up land. Here no one cares that you're a special snowflake. Here people make a choice sometimes to use a seemingly gender-specific term in a non-gender specific way. If your colleague ended the call with "ok, ladies" how would you feel. Get over your perceived specialness. It's 2016, no one fucking cares about your gender (real or perceived) or any other characteristic besides your ability to be a good person and pull your weight.
My last 3 engagements, I've been the only guy on the team of 4
Yet I bet your team never mistakenly referred to you as a lady...
I say "guys" all the time when referring to my teams ex: come on guys lets go...the past 3 projects I've been on it's been all female and maybe one guy...it's ok to just not take things so personally
OP, stfu. It's a term. Put your big girl britches on.
And for the record I don't give a flying fuck who you love, your gender, race or anything. I'm the strait white male you pretend doesn't exist and instead label as a racist or homophobe when I get pissed at people who wank over their personality quirks. Get comfortable with yourself and grow the fuck up.
And I said guuuurrrrrrrrllllll
I agree with you 100% A2....but now a days everyone has their panties in a twist and a stick up their ass.
I'm the only guy on my team and the project lead often says "thanks ladies" at the end of calls. It's really not that big of a deal
I usually end calls by saying "thanks humans"
D3, add this up, stop being a fucking PC wuss. If you're too fucking insecure to understand that in the English language you sometimes have to make gender reference decisions you're a fucking lost cause.
I don't know any women who get upset when men refer to a mixed group as guys. But gents? Am I a gentleman now?
No, it's not an issue with the firm. It's about the guy who used an incorrect word to address the team.
I hate people who look at an office and go "oh there are few people of this gender and that race so let's add more people so that we have an evenly distributed pie chart. While we are at it let's this thing about some people with more money than others is disturbing so let's redistribute and make sure everyone has the same amount."
Grow some skin. Wow.
A2...you are my favorite person...
A2- glad you live in a 100% meritocracy. Also, just because something happens in the "real world" doesn't mean that it should continue. There are clearly much bigger fish to fry, but these small things add up.
Also, it is interesting how she never said that it bothered her that the person used the term "gents." She was just stating that it spoke to a larger gender imbalance issue, which is documented by a mountain of facts and statistics. Lots of angry dudes on here making it kind of personal. ❄️
A2- resorting to name calling, swearing, and putting someone down all in one post. Impressive!
I have no anger. I just am over treating people like unicorns because of some perceived difference. Please show me where I said men were superior? My wife is a fucking Colonel in the Air Force. She's a badass and I'm proud of her as a person, not because she's a woman.
