You know you’ve reached a new low when you cancel interviews because you know you won’t get the job

Why would you self sabotage like that? Doesn’t hurt to do the interview. Worst case scenario you never hear back. What did you sacrifice?

So much for shooting your shot. Even if you don’t get the job or the next round interview, why not get the practice?

I get it. I think excitement and interest can be perceived in interviews. Pursue the roles that you want the most!

My last role was one that I applied to as a joke (wildly underqualified), kept getting through interview rounds and then took the job, learned how to do it, and killed it. You don’t know what precisely they’re looking for.

The best opportunities I’ve had came from the most unexpected places. Keep an open mind and go in with your truth. I’ve learned a lot from exploring the opportunities I didn’t think I wanted or felt I wasn’t qualified for. If you’ve got tons of other interviews lined up or don’t have the capacity to deal with interviewing, that’s another story. Otherwise, it never hurts to have a conversation.

My sister got a job she was under qualified for. And she later found she beat a candidate who was way better qualified simply bc of her personality and interview!!!

You could have learned something in those interviews to help you in others.. I’ve also received a job even when I didn’t know all that much in the interviews. They liked how I handled myself.

Just treat it as practice

There’s a huge labor shortage going on right now. Expectations for what may be a qualified candidate are being lowered by the week. Congrats, you played yourself.

I feel so low that I don’t even apply for a job, let alone do a interview.

like

I’m sure you have a good reason, but there’s also a reason they wanted to interview you

I feel you.

Only those who try, fail. Good job!

Not really. I hate to say this but from the POV of the other side they need to do “enough” interviews and often this is to hit D&I quotas. You are just not wasting time. If the job won’t be a good fit or if you know that they are just going through the motions, why waste your time?

I actually thought I wasn't moving forward during a pre-loop screen and was going to drop out. But the manager told me before the interview was even over they were moving me forward. You shouldn't make assumptions. Because if I did, I wouldn't have gotten the job.

OP, did they cancel or did you cancel? What drove you to cancel it?? Any interview is a good practice. I aimed for something 2 level above and got the pie in the sky. You can do it too. It’s ok to dust off and try again. Good luck!

Even though i may or may not get.. I will attend interview as getting an interview call itself is a great thing and i at all i dont get i use this as a learning exp which will be helpful in next interview. Writing from my own exp.. and all the experience has grabbed myself a good offer from a prod based company.

Wild hypothetical, wondering what you all think my chances are for HSW or maybe M7. Happy to answer follow up questions within reason. Bain SAC (C by the time I’d go), 2.85 ug gpa from deece state school, 740 GMAT, Hispanic male, variety of fun hobbies/ECs with the most impactful being a bunch of resume/job coaching. I write a mean essay and interview very well. I’ve heard Harv cares a lot about GPA and ug rank so worried there, but any thoughts on schools that might be worth a reach?

Got an offer for a job that starts in the summer (Jul 2022) and the firm is willing to apply for the H1B lottery. Since I’d have two entries (McK + other firm), what happens if the McK entry gets picked up (assuming the other firm isn’t)? Am I correct to assume that I’d have to stay at McK atleast until Oct 2022? Or can the other firm formally apply for my H1B instead?

All! Hey everyone - I am 28 with 5YOE (2 in consulting 3 in industry) and am working towards a part time MBA at a T15 program. My current comp is 130k which I am quite happy with (having started at 52). I see posts here stating folks comp in consulting to be around 300-500k. How does one get to those numbers? Are you all in MBB or T2 firms and how did you get to that position? I was hoping to get to those numbers by 35 or 40, and was thinking of a plan to get there.
