Everyone knows it’s guns. If they don’t admit it then either:
- The propaganda machine (“muh freedoms”) got them and/or
- The NRA gives them money and/or
- They want to secure gun nut votes
Look I think the assault weapons ban is just a waste of political capital. Would rather have restrictions on magazine size, background checks, etc.
“Assault Style” is purely cosmetic, you can buy a gun the same size, that fires the same bullets, with a clip the holds the same amount of ammo that is not an “assault style” weapon and do the same amount of damage.
BCG 1:
1) you need to ban the features that make the guns deadly, not just a “brand” of gun. It’s like saying all shooting have been committed with black guns so then ban them and then if people commit shooting with grey guns then we’ll ban them too. It’s just bad policy.
2) there is a political cost because 30% of the country believes if they give an inch of gun control the government will take a mile, and unfortunately for us they are spread out throughout the country in a way that gives them a lot of power in republican primaries and in the senate. And 2 dems won’t break the filibuster. (Although this would be a bad time to break the filibuster)

What is an assault weapon?

Hey KPMG. I got news for you bud. Those aren't the same other than maybe firing the same bullet and have a similar firing mechanism.
The "tactical" aka assault rifle has:
- collapsible stock
- pistol grip
- piccatiny rails on top, side, bottom
- flash suppressor
The farm rifle has none of those.
Those additional features contribute to the rifle being significantly more deadly. But go on with the liberals can't comprehend.

The problem with the 90s assault weapons ban is that it was so compromised that the modern firearms industry has built in all its loopholes. The old ban qualified a weapon as an "assault" weapon based on a list of characteristics or features, some useful (no automatic fire options), but some basically cosmetic (bayonet lugs, pistol grips) .
Any future version should focus on cartridge size - purchase of rifles chambered in 5.56 and above should be way more limited (a ban is impossible.
Background checks, waiting periods, and even age limits should be seriously considered for weapons designed for max casualties.
