Hi All! I hope you guys are staying safe and healthy.
I am hosting a free workshop for teachers that I thought might benefit you. The workshop is called From Unsettled to Prepared Classroom. I am giving you the tools you need to feel organized and ready for this upcoming school year. There is so much that is still uncertain and it can be super daunting to start to plan for a year like this one.

I once had a CD not tell me that my concept was chosen, and he assigned himself to oversee the photo shoot. On a beach. In France. There is no earthly reason why they had to go to France for the shoot (we were based in California). I didn’t find out about it until I needed him to review some other work and someone told me he was in France shooting my concept that he had no part in developing.
That’s pretty much how it goes, assuming you already have a pretty full plate.
Secretly is never ok. Ask for transparency and if your plate is full move things around.
It is how it goes but it shouldn’t be. The fact that it happened secretly is not acceptable. Talk to your superiors and in a professional (i.e. not angry) tone explain to them that after all you contributed, you would have appreciated more transparency. Then ask them why you were not assigned to the account. If it’s because you’re busy, that could have been a discussion about prioritizing your work. Maybe some of your current assignments could have been given to someone who didn’t work on the pitch. Or is it another issue? Whatever it is, a discussion is always best vs secrecy. And there’s almost always a solution. Let them know you’re still happy to help on the account in any way you can.
You should be angry but don’t approach the issue that way. Talk to your manager and find out why you are not on the project.
If it is underhanded confront them about it don’t just let it happen. Then quietly plan your exit, because who wants to work with a bunch of passive aggressive jerks?
It has to be that way. If you’re good at new biz and help win more than a couple of accounts, you can’t possibly be on staff for all of them.
Thanks all. I think the secrecy was the worst part, and the thing that most makes me want to quit. Im good, I know I contributed more presented work than most creatives and it felt like a slap in the face. I’ve brought it up to our CCO and others. I’ll confront this CD eventually, but I have a feeling he’s beyond changing. No one likes working with him anymore
The amount of anger should be inversely proportional to the size of the bonus.
That’s how it goes, unfortunately.
Dang I though this bullshit stopped after you moved past senior. What a stupid industry.
Depends. Did you express interest in working on this business? If you did, that’s messed up of upper management. If you didn’t, maybe they didn’t know you were interested so didn’t see that as an option.
We staff pitches based on who’s available in the short term and that does not always align with the team selected to service the business for the long term. There are so many factors that go into these decisions and it could be tied to previous experience, team bandwidth, a nuance in the RFP or something that’s going to help sell it to the client. For example, if the client is in Florida, maybe the account person selected to service the account is from Florida. I’d ask what the thinking was in how the team was selected to work on the account, express interest in supporting the team in executing your vision and leave it at that.
