It is significantly harder to leave for industry the higher up you get in the consultant world. Higher expectations and probably lesser pay. Keep your head up and keeping looking. I put in my 2 weeks notice last week, but found my new job through LinkedIn. If you haven’t already, make sure you toggle the feature to say you are actively looking. Typically headhunters from there know ballpark currently what you are making so they would likely only reach out if they are willing to pay you a comparable salary.
I left as senior manager for a director role (I am also in tax). Took longer than I wanted to find the right role, so keep looking. But they are out there
Agree. I figure I have to leave as Director or I’ll never get that level if I leave for less. The political buddy-buddy battles/rewards are insane in industry...so much politics.
OP, what city are you in? Are you looking in other cities as well or staying put?
I’ll just say ‘large metro’, decent economy. There’s tons of roles, but can’t even get in the door to most.
