Young Associates: Every major firm is either laying off associates or considering laying off associates. Don't be fooled by your firm's silence. They are trying to pass off these layoffs as performance related moves but you should not be fooled. Be wary and try, if possible, to keep your hours up.

I agree with this advice. But I want to note that lots of firms are in the midst of performance reviews and some associates are going to be let go because they are underperforming and that would happen regardless of the market climate.

like

Underperforming is generally different than not meeting hours. We have a couple associates in my group who are low on hours but otherwise meeting expectations and they’re fine. But there are a couple others who are just not developing on pace/not responding to constructive feedback. They are underperforming.

Where is the data showing every major firm is doing this ?

like

Meh, we don’t need data - just look at the stock market and macro

Define “major firm”. I’m at an Am150. Pretty lean generally, and in lean speciality partner heavy group, rather than very large corporate or litigation groups.

Even when my firm already lost a lot of associates?

Just to buck the classic lawyer anxiety trend my firm in corporate is still hiring junior associates - fairly regularly it seems. There is that much dry powder around / funds have raised significant undeployed capital it is only a matter of time before transaction volumes bounce - particularly in distressed M&A. I’m not too worried 🤷🏼‍♂️

I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 12. My family did not opt to put me on medication. I illegally discovered Adderall in college. Worked incredible. Got diagnosed after college & after having been fired from my first job. Passed the CPA exams on Adderall. Went off of it again. I do everything well at my job except for attention to detail within my excel files & emails. Will taking ADHD medication really fix this? Does anyone else have this issue and was it resolved by taking medication?

Hello everyone! I was recently laid off from my position as a Senior SE due to downsizing. I am now in a market for a new and exciting opportunity.

Alittle background for context. I have 5 years of experience as an SE selling to both mid market and Large enterprise across different verticals. My career has been spent with some of the largest ERP and tech companies in the world but I am open to any opportunity.

If you know of any opportunities please reach out. Thank you all for any help

Hi everyone,

I was affected by layoffs about a month ago and urgently looking for a good immigration lawyer. The lawyer should be experienced in handling this 60 day grace period situation and developing alternate strategies - such as change of status to B1/B2 or applying to jobs from India. There is a lot of noise and wrong information going in the market so looking for good recommendations.

I have very little time left for my grace period to end and need a consultation soon. Thanks

Friends, I’m 25, entering my third year in MBB, and I’m so burnt out (I’ve averaged close to 80 hours / week since joining and hate the culture). I’ve always had a passion for public interest law, have worked at an impact litigation firm, and am convinced that going to law school is the answer. I’m afraid that without a big scholarship, I’ll land in big law to pay off loans and will be in the same situation I’m in now (with 100k+ debt). Any advice? Thank you!

Does it make sense to save my money for the house, or would you recommend still paying as much as I can towards student loans? (28, never owned a house and not good with understanding finances).
