Is it appropriate for a senior associate to swear and scream at an associate? Senior associate is universally disliked by all associates but continues to promoted and will be named a partner this year. Senior was a factor in 4 associates leaving in the past year.

I snapped at a customer for the first time today. They did nothing wrong, I was just angry after a day of being yelled at. I apologized and feel so horrible even though they understood. Who else has done that before?

Have you ever been told off by an older attorney of color? We have one Black partner at our firm and in conversation with him this morning he told me I should work on sounding and looking "more professional" and not let my "tone" or "bad attitude" get in the way. I don't think I've ever had a bad attitude at work, and whatever "tone" I'm speaking in it's my normal one. As a Black woman I just feel super weird about it and kind of sad.

Really looking for a way to turn around a toxic building culture with staff to staff bullying, cliques/social isolation, hard feelings on big topics (racism, non acceptance of gender identity). Last year the staff polarized with the lead bully whom I helped leave. And the lead gossip (who was my secretary) that gained their sympathy and turned them against me. She also left. Now I need to regain trust and eliminate unacceptable teacher behaviors. Open to any and all advice.

In all the work I’ve done this new Snr. PM comes in minimizing my Black Female voice & basically pushing me in an assistant role. I spoke to my boss & was getting gaslighted. In any case right after I was on a briefing & Snr. PM starts making all sorts of promises & speaking about what’s going to happen not remembering what actually happens on the ground. I’m a new associate working for a well-known defense attorney in my state. On one hand, I’m thankful for the opportunity to learn from one of the best, but he also excoriates and belittles me for my mistakes. Any advice on how much it tolerable? I am here to learn and advance my career but he can be pretty nasty. I was recently promoted to a new position at my company. I'm so excited to be taking on this new challenge, but it's not going as well as I had hoped.
