No. Probably $150.
Not really.
A one bedroom condo in downtown Toronto is like $2400. A comparable one bedroom unit in NYC is more like $4500-5500. Parking spots $400-600.
I’d say you gotta at least make $200k USD to have the same quality of life in NYC.
On a side note, Toronto is not really that expensive compared to metros in the US.

Why isn’t downtown Toronto comparable to Manhattan? I live in downtown Toronto and considering moving to NYC, but it would have to be manhattan.
HCM is WAY off.
Having lived in both, I’d say same lifestyle will be in the 140 usd range. A nice one bed in nyc is ~3800 usd, vs 2500 cad in Toronto. Food / Expenses are maybe 10% more (non-dollar adjusted). (E.g., $100 USD dinner is similar to a $90 cad dinner here)
Ok Facebook, by that logic let’s compare downtown Toronto to downtown Sudbury. They’re both downtown, so apples to apples right? Jeez would you look at that - it’s way cheaper to live in Sudbury for the same lifestyle - that of a downtown elite.
I would think 200k USD would be ideal for NYC so you're getting solid quality of life and nickel and diming yourself on anything

I don't really understand why so many want to go to NYC, just seems more expensive for no good reason. Especially as a consultant if you work for a firm where pay is standard across geographies
I don’t think most do, that’s the issue. I believe firms with regional staffing models are like this, but then you have to travel. I think MBB is also like this, but you’d know better than me. B4 isn’t like this at all
Not sure how updates this is but 9k a month usd maintains the same standard of living as 7k cad here apparently: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Canada&city1=Toronto&country2=United+States&city2=New+York%2C+NY
Oh this is great. Thank you for sharing this.
