KPMG has a clawback unfortunately up until a year after it's received

likehelpful

If you’re at EY, it’s yours to keep once you get it.

like

Are you sure about this, I saw a recovery agreement in the bonus contract

Just get it as a sign on bonus / reimbursement from your new employer. They’re probably used to this.

Hope we never ever go back

See what your firm’s policy is on CPA bonus clawback. Some firms let you keep it all, i believe. If nothing is stated about a clawback then it’s yours to keep.

like

You will be going back to the office soon. Maybe hold it out for a bit if you enjoyed the team time

funny

Not if vaccination keeps going at this putrid rate haha. But I agree with your general sentiment. Though idk if it’s gonna fly with me if PA wants me to commute more that 3 days a week on average post covid, but that’s just me.

I think most firms require repayment if you don’t stay X amount of time after being paid out. Especially for exam fee reimbursements and study materials

like

I certainly would not let $5K be the deciding factor between staying and leaving

like

What are the reasons that are pushing you to say it's not for me? The remote setting although draining for many of us will change, so I am encouraging people to not make a decision solely based on that as it could affect the rest of your career path! Always up to you but good to assess the pros and cons and where you want to be in the long-term!

like

I totally respect that and understand the frustration. Whatever you decide has to be what you feel.is best! Just want ypu to consider the pros and cons and options outside of where you are so you don't look back and regret leaving for one factor being remote, although I recognize it feels like a huge factor in our now!

I feel the same as you OP

If you're in public and miserable I'd suggest riding out post-busy season for awhile if there's any clawback to avoid it. It shouldn't be a deciding factor and can be negotiated at your future employer but money's money. Basically the goal, and what I typically see among people in my hire class, is a mad rush to get out right before or at the start of busy season. There's definitely a reason for that, but there's also a reason people just stick it out for the months after filing with very little work to do. Your team may be mad when you leave during busy season but there's always someone who can be smoothly brought in prior to or at the start of busy season.

When I left Plante Moran for PwC I had to pay back my CPA bonus. I passed and was paid out my bonus just two months prior. Had I left a year after the fact it would have been different. Best thing you can do is check your employment agreement that you signed.

Is there a way to negotiate the bonus repayment with the firm? The clawback is requiring me to pay back $10k.

Not a senior manager, SR FP&A for a business unit at a large established fintech company. I was recently hired but I am feeling very underpaid. Originally I asked for 100k, but was told that 80k + bonus was the best they could do. I'm trying to get a feel for what others are being paid for similar roles, and if there is anyway I could leverage RTO/ inflation data before the 6month mark to get a salary increase.
