Any tropical vacation destination ideas with a 1 year old? I want to plan a vacation - either Caribbean or Central America I think - that’s a bit adventurous but also relaxing. Please send ideas if you have any. (I’m currently thinking Costa Rica)

Did Costa Rica with 1& 3 year old pre covid. It was a great trip and very manageable with kids. Rented a car and visited Fortuna (canopy walk, animal reserve, hot springs, walk/dined in town center), Monteverdi (hiking) and Manuel Antonio (beach, boat ride, hikes). There are more adventurous things to do but this is what worked us.

Left a job in government (prosecution), currently at a mid-size firm. I’m really starting to not only hate law firm life, but the practice of law generally. Is this part of the transition? I left my last job because I was on-call 24/7. Now I’m 24/7 again but due to billable requirements. I have no hobbies, no free time, and only spend about an hour/day with my kids. Not sure I want this life. At least I had insane PTO for govt work.

EY Parental leave question: how many weeks were you actually out? When I took my leave 3 years ago, I counted total of 21 weeks of leave. That’s including one firm winter holiday week. I remember I initially thought I would be back after 16 weeks, but then in the middle of my time off I got an email from Leave Team with the breakdown and it actually was 21 weeks. Can someone who took leave recently tell me the actual number of weeks?

I, a childless woman who does not plan to have kids, am jealous of the parental leave parents get to take from work from choosing to have a child (a big life event). I 100% understand that they are working in a different way by taking care of the baby and being deliriously worn out in the process, but it makes me sort of jealous that unless I have a kid there is no life event that I can take ~3 months away from work to focus on and enjoy, plus have my hours prorated and a job to come back to.

Starting a new job soon, with a nice pay bump. Also have been looking for a vacation home for a year now, and we think we found a good one that isn't just flying off the market. Part of me thinks we should go for it, and the other part thinks it's much wiser to wait to make sure I'm actually good at the new job. What do you all think?

Anyone know of non-consulting companies with good PTO benefits right off the bat? I currently get 5 weeks, but most companies seem to be at 2-3 weeks, with opp to earn more with 5-10 years of service.

Do most other firms roll over unused PTO or pay it out at year's end?

Do you include unrealized PTO into your net worth if your company pay it out once terminated/you leave and you don’t lose it at the end of each year? Essentially guaranteed money if you don’t use it so not sure why one wouldn’t include it 🤔
