Only in the case that you’re moving between companies in the same industry - I work in a fairly small segment of the Medtech industry and everyone knows everyone. There was a recent instance of a former colleague being screwed out of a job because the hiring manager called up someone they knew who told them to stay away from the applicant.
Aim to be someone people want to work with - that’s not the same as being liked.

good advice!
Oh it happens all the time, especially when cohorts of peers join the same company together.
Not so much, but it’s important to lay low until you figure out the peer groups.
Try not to share your journey with anyone and don’t even update social platforms like LinkedIn for a while. They can’t ruin what they don’t know!

haha good point!
I don't worry about things like that to a great extent, but I am aware that people's opinions can come into play as people move around. It's like the old expression about being nice to the people you meet on the way up as you'll run into them again on the way down. You just never know where or when you'll encounter people. So it's always good to be personable and don't go out of your way to have confrontations with coworkers.

very true
No, I don't really think about things like that. People not liking me is a them problem. And I don't know how they can hinder me from being great.
