Lets talk about the fake diversity culture in advertising: I’m a woman of color who fell into the agency world via a jr designer position posted on craigslist in 2011. I’ve always felt like an intruder in a white mans world no matter how ‘nice’ everyone was. From then til now Ive watched clients call for an ‘attractive white women’ model shift to ‘racially ambiguous models’ and seen copy voice / tone change to ‘sound less white’. BUT nothing has bothered me more than this. Thoughts???
Ad agency designer desperately looking for an out but I have a possible new job opportunity. Here is my dilemma: Pros.... more money, no crazy client demands, pitches or decks or even prospective clients that will go nowhere (in-house), better benefits Cons.... this is a big one - it’s healthcare I’ve been at agencies with a range of clients for the past few years. Career suicide taking an in-house healthcare job? Especially if role focuses more on growth & performance over design?
At bigger agencies, I’m seeing that AD roles are asking for 5+ yrs experience while Designer roles require more like 3+. I’m an AD with 3 yrs experience. Would it be foolish to accept a Designer role?

Interviewed (via Zoom) with an out of town firm about a possible lateral position in mid-March. They were extremely positive, hinted at an offer, but stated it was a timing issue with COVID (understandable). Checked in a few times, silence for months, wrote it off, but was informed recently go before the Hiring Committee early next week. Assuming it goes well, is it appropriate to ask to fly down to meet others/ learn more given the passage of time?
