Rising Star
I am a manager myself and I occasionally have to supervise people older than I am. I personally don’t care what your age is, as long as you can do the job. Sometimes I can sense they don’t want to listen to me, but if you don’t want to, you’ve got to figure out how to be a manager yourself then. Or not let it bother you.
I worked for myself for 25 years and now i'll be working for others probably younger than me. I understand how you must feel, but can't say for sure yet.
I do kniw this - as a woman in construction, a field usually dominated by men, I had to earn their respect over and over again! That was frustrating. But by being as professional as possible, most would come around.
I think the same will be the case for you. Show them that your experience should be valued and respected.
It happens a lot. I’ve been doing it for years. I hope you’ll consider the contributions you make in your position keep the wheel turning. And no one should feel like they’re taking orders from someone else. If that’s your case, it’s not embarrassing for you but it should be for their leadership style.
