I usually work in two different industries Pharma consulting and Real Estate independent contractor (part-time when on an assignment). I haven't worked in a full-time permanent role since 2013. However, I am thinking about applying for permanent positions. My challenge is changing my mindset to being more corporate. I feel like my authentic self is not welcomed and I have to be someone I am not. I am a loyal and dedicated employee though. Any suggestions?

I feel your frustration. I made the switch from freelancing to corporate in 2022. One thing I promised myself was to bring the parts of me I could to my interviews, my work life, and my job. Having multiple passions and experiences makes people more valuable IMO. Consider not challenging yourself to being “more corporate” and challenging yourself to bring your whole self, acceptance or not.

For me after a year in that corporate job, it was no longer a fit. But I used that as a stepping stone to enter another corporate start up, for more pay and more aligned values. I truly get to be my FULLEST expression in my role now. And if I didn’t use that first corporate job as a testing platform for myself - I’m not sure I would know exactly “how” to be my most authentic self at work. Best of luck!
