My senior manager always schedules "quick updates" on Friday afternoons that drag on for hours. Is it terrible of me to start blocking time on my calendar to make sure I can actually get out of the office at a decent hour?

Are they 1:1? What is “a decent hour?” Propose a new time directly in outlook and/or ask if an alternate works. Indicate you have a conflict or need to advance the work they are discussing with you. Advocate for yourself directly rather than hiding behind “unavailability.”

Yes, they are 1:1s. They are very last minute, not a scheduled in advance thing. And seem to get added to the calendar between 5-6 pm. I've never had a manager do this, which is why I'm wondering if it's appropriate to just...block my calendar off.
