As a young consultant only 2 or so years into my career, who has lost a ton of money in the stock market (for me) and has had a few friends get laid off...can someone tell me everything is going to be
Hey guys. Was laid off as a generalist consultant last month. My eventual goal is to get into data analytics and data science. At this point I’m really good with excel and have some working knowledge in both SQL and tableau. I feel kinda lost still, what should I be learning specifically? I’d love to chat and learn about what you guys do and a bit of mentoring (if you’re up for it). Thanks in advance!
My father was a traveling consultant for 25 years. Barely know him. He was laid off 5 years ago. Alcoholism, depression, the works. Terrified to follow in his footsteps. Needed to vent.
Just got laid off, what would one year as a Senior Consultant in Strategy, an MBA at a top 15 school, and 6 years prior work experience get me? Any potential to get a strategy/BD position at FAANG?
If you are a management consultant with no hard skills or focus area, what skills would you invest in now (during quarantine) to prep for layoffs or exit opps — in the COVID / post COVID economy?
Bad look for the management consultant who started this - https://www.google.com/amp/s/nymag.com/intelligencer/amp/2020/06/why-did-the-washington-post-get-this-woman-fired.html
Is it ethical to layoff a consultant by using the counsel to leave mechanism over the standard redundancy process? Theres less notice period and no compensation for such a case. Furthermore the consultant was previously good standing or at least average. Do we have any legislation to protect us against such actions?
Offered role with client for same amount of money but one level higher. Trying to figure out if Worth taking it. It’s my dream role but the pay is the same ( consultant to manager role). Reasons to leave D, work life balance, layoffs scare me, current client has good culture/ work to life balance is 9-5. Is it common to get offers from clients? If so maybe I can wait and get better offer.
If a consultant company believes they will go back to pre-covid level after certain period, can they furlough consultants instead of layoffs? What are the rules of furlough? Can they furlough just the ones that are on the beach?
Anyone hiring in Houston? About to get laid off from technology sr consultant role. Willing to travel as much as necessary (when possible)
Hey guys. I’m a Healthcare Consultant that just got laid off. Anyone willing to provide a reference?
Hi! Healthcare consultant here recently laid off and looking for new opportunities. Background in implementation/strategy with a MHM. Chicago based but willing to relocate to north east. Pleas help 😊
My husband and I both had COVID-19 in late March, and I was working around the clock on layoffs and constantly prioritizing my work over my family.I finally hit a wall, listened to the voice inside, and left my HR leadership role to become an independent consultant. I am consulting with companies to help them bridge the enormous gaps between employee needs and current employer actions. My first order of business was running the first large-scale study focusing exclusively on COVID-19's impacts on working mothers. I would love to hear what your organizations are grappling with the massive undertaking of redefining your company culture and employee.
Recently laid off, and struggling to land interviews. Anyone have tips or tricks on how to get an independent consultant role?
Randomly came across a bowl from a year ago. I was wondering will consultant fee’s also be slashed due to the upcoming depression/recession? We’re they slashed in 2008? https://www.fishbowlapp.com/post/how-did-deloitte-handle-the-2008-recession-were-there-massive-layoffs-what-about-consultancies-in-general

Hi! I’m a senior graphic designer newly laid off looking for a new in-house creative position. Let me know, thanks
OK, biggest fuck up of your career? Mine: I didn’t check the final proof for a supermarket print ad so there was a fridge on sale for 50 bucks. Almost got fired. Yours?
Is it tone deaf to push for a raise / promotion at mid-year when the firm has been struggling financially, but avoiding layoffs / pay cuts?
I'm on an engagement and a manager jokingly told a new associate "you're fired" and the associate jokingly said back "f*** you". Do you think that was appropriate? Should that get held against her?
People that have been furloughed or laid off, have you been able to successfully apply for unemployment or is there a backlog?
Anyone think it's odd how few goodbye emails we have gotten this round? Supposedly 15% of advisory is getting the boot... Expected more based on February FS layoffs
Long story short: I work for a small healthcare consulting firm. Since COVID, I was going to the office once a week, every Wednesday. Today, I have put on my 2 weeks because I accepted an offer from a big 4. During my last 2 weeks, I had planned to see my family for the first week, and go to the office on my final week. Also today, my boss asks me to come in the office everyday next week. Should I say I don’t feel comfortable and just don’t go?What’s the worst it happen? Get fired lol
I’m being let go. It came as a surprise because my time with the company I’ve gotten positive feedback. A couple of weeks ago my boss told me that I was being put on a 30 day performance review plan. The last 2 weeks I’ve gotten positive feedback about improvement but on Thursday my boss decided to cut the review plan short and give me an end date. Since I’ve been there <1 year I’m getting 2 weeks severance. Is there room for severance negotiation? A friend in HR (not ad) told me I should ask.
Are any of the firms planning more layoffs? Any specific industries? Is it just lack of demand causing this?
Just curious, has anyone ever been laid off right before they were about to give their 2 week notice for leaving to another job?
So GM doesn't hit their bottom line: why are junior practitioners taking the fall with layoffs when this was largely caused by Rachel Miller and GM leadership mismanaging the service line?
Which firms have had layoffs within the last 6 months? Was it contained to a particular practice, "sub-group" or other characteristic? It seems like a lot of firms have been making cuts....
Just got back from 2 week long PTO and the only emails in my inbox are the mass corporate ones... Did I get fired without knowing it? Lol
I accepted an offer for a reputed firm and realized there is no mention of severance in the offer letter in the event they decide to end the employment. It is normal for firms to not offer severance?
What is one thing you wish HR would start, stop, or continue to do post Covid-19 that would help support employees and drive the business forward?
Can someone who has jumped from consulting to early stage start-up comment on what their road, and lessons learned have been? Has your pay eventually picked back up to what it was at the consulting level ? Are you happy you made the move? What do you see are your next opportunities if the start-up doesn’t work out?
1.5 years at ibm in digital strategy consulting. Want to stay for two then head to a startup after promo. Does that look bad for MBA apps?
What do you think about an interview process with a 45 minute prompt? Is it vital or a complete waste of time? (I didn’t mind the prompt I completed this morning but was curious about your opinions.)
I got an email from a recruiter for an interview for Sales Analytics & Insights Lead. Any idea of what to expect?
Traditional or Roth? 401K or IRA? Factors to consider? Eligible for any above (income/age) and want to maximize value through tax/investing strategy for retirement. In early 30’s $100-125K income.
Brazil removes covid reporting data. What’s going on there? Hiding information during a crisis is dangerous.
You can you theoretically turn down a promotion? Can you imagine what being a 40 year old associate w/ 18 years of experience would be like??
Hey freelancers...I usually raise my rates every 2-3 years. For those of you long-time freelancers, how often do you raise rates? And by what percentage? Looking to keep up with market/cost-of-living and yet, not price myself out.
Those MBB PLs who are making $300k+ is it worth it? How many hours are you pulling? What’s your travel schedule? Do you see friends/family?
Hi all! Just introducing myself. I’ve become a Bowl Leader here in the new biz bowl. Looking forward to it! This bowl helped me tremendously when I switched from prod co sales to full service agency biz dev. Great group! I’m now biz dev director for a production/post/animation facility. Please comment with a bit about you and your role. Thanks!
Hi All! Are there any other VPs in Raleigh on here! If you don’t mind sharing, what’s your base salary? When I was negotiating, they wouldn’t come up for me.
Feeling a bit down today. Yet another friend just told me she is pregnant — not a complete surprise, I suspected when I saw her on a prior socially-distanced outing. But still frustrated at myself. I’ve had multiple egg retrievals and have already had two cancelled transfers due to issues with my lining each time. Just feels like everyone around me is getting pregnant while for me, it’s still issue after issue popping up. Also reminded of the fact that I had a miscarriage a year ago this time.
Those unfortunate cases where kids didn't survive covid, were they perfectly healthy or had underlining conditions before covid?
My law firm mentioned that they filed my h1b petition under Consular notification. Does that mean I can travel abroad even without having a decision on my H1b? PS- my h1b is not yet approved
Thoughts on Big 4 -> PE ops role? 2 years out of undergrad, interviewing for a 2 year analyst role, would then do MBA afterwards. Interest post-MBA would be turnaround and restructuring Not a "name brand" firm. Smaller, local shop but role would have broad exposure across the firm and might involve work with investment team after year 1
