I can't help but feel like this is an industry where people can only succeed and grow if you like to show off about the smallest things you've done and talk your mouth off at meetings. As a result, many incompetent / NOT knowledgeable people are getting all the credit over the really qualified people. Do you experience this at your company too? How does a silent worker, who is actually good at their job, get in the good books?

I am a 25y/o project engineer for a mechanical contractor, currently finishing my apprenticeship with a long and stressful commute, no overtime pay or vacation time. Despite working long hours and handling numerous tasks, including admin work after recent layoffs, my boss dismissed my concerns about unpaid extra hours. I feel worthless. Do I finish my apprenticeship, quit and find another project engineer job, or stick it out despite the toll on my well-being?
