Do you keep in touch with people from your ex-company? I got laid off two weeks ago, and for some reason, I'm hesitant to reach out to my ex-colleagues. Not that they did anything wrong, but I have a bitter taste in my mouth, and I guess it's affecting how I feel about them too. How do you go about this?

Those connections can be a source of support, and you might even find new opportunities through them later on. But give yourself permission to reach out only when you feel up to it... your feelings are totally valid.

It’s completely normal to feel hesitant after being laid off, even if nobody did anything wrong. Sometimes, it helps to take a little distance to process things, then reach out to ex-colleagues you felt closest to. Often they feel awkward, too, and might welcome hearing from you. When you’re ready, a low-pressure check-in will do the trick!

For me, it’s always been about the relationship, not the employer. Sometimes, shared experiences, good or bad, can make the bond even stronger after both of us have moved on. I had a former colleague I stayed close with for years, but over time, we drifted apart and eventually lost touch. It happens, and that’s okay too.

Give it some time, and then decide whether or not you might want to. I was still very raw, only 2 weeks after my layoff. Better off keeping yourself out of sensitive situations and just focusing on yourself for a while.

With the exception of the two people I was actually friends with outside of work, I don't bother. I no longer have anything in common with them, and reaching out to them would only make me more miserable and angry than I already am by reminding me of the company I'm doing my best to forget.

Hi everyone, I’m an architectural designer (from Europe) with 1.5 yrs experience. I’m working for a practice in San Francisco, full-time from the office, getting 25 an hour. It is so expensive to live here, I am struggling to make things work. Is this a normal salary for someone of my experience or should I ask for a raise? I don’t want to be greedy but it’s so expensive out here… Thank you 🌈

How do you stay up to date on creative openings? I try to keep as up to date on new business wins and check on LinkedIn (job posts and searching for posts about openings), the Avail List and connect with as many recruiters as possible. But as most jobs aren’t even posted, how do you stay on top of it? I’m exhausted.
