The “pretty privilege” is real. For women, it helps to be height-weight proportionate and attractive, for men, it helps to be tall and have hair. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible to succeed if you aren’t these things (or that you will be successful if you’re good looking and incompetent), but it’s an advantage.
I agree! Staying fit and being well groomed does make a difference even if it is not considered fair
Consulting is an extension of the sales world, especially at the senior levels. Research has shown that pretty/handsome people are more successful. Beyond that for women, well groomed, hair, nails, clothes, in shape. For men, well groomed, hair, clothes, in shape, tall. Honestly, I think women have more things they can control...men lose hair and have no control of how tall they are. On the flip side, women have to birth children and bare the brunt of home responsibilities which adds wear and tear men don't have. So ultimately, I think the challenges are different but if you have a good balance with your husband, can end up equaling out.
