If you are not Christian, expect an attempt to convert you. Welcome to the South.
It may be a kind gesture, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was an attempt to convert you. Some churches, especially in the South, put a premium on bringing in new converts all the time.
It’s not like it’s an everyday occurrence, but it’s not uncommon. There were two people at the entrance of Perimeter Mall last week asking people to come to their church. I had someone try to convert me on a late night Krispy Kreme run in college. You must know people who do missionary work; that’s a huge badge of honor in these parts and considered very normal…trying to convert an acquaintance is exactly the same thing.
I would politely decline.
For some in the south church can be a great social outlet. There may be some attempt at conversion down the road but I don’t think they will come hard out of the gate and they definitely won’t bundle you up and throw you in a van or anything. Keep in mind your contractor wouldn’t invite you if he thought it might lose him business down the road. It could be a great way for you to meet people in your community.
Depends on the kind of church but keep an open mind, if you don’t like it after the first visit kindly let him know. I don’t think one day of church would hurt in any way, hey you might enjoy it
I would politely decline. As a catholic who came from the north, I was surprised to see how much more of an emphasis the southern churches place on recruitment. While their intention might be good, you don’t want to put yourself in an uncomfortable position where you’re pressured to continue going by your handyman or other church members who he may introduce you to
If you don't feel comfortable its okay to say no. But if you want to go and check it out, just keep an open mind and go see what its about.
