Hello Fishes, Our project management asked us to return the assets by Oct 1st. They are forcing us to pick any upcoming Saturday's to return the assets, that to we need to report the office by 10 am to return the system. Does this "return to pick up" option in Ultimatix still works or we need to go to office only to return the system.? Tata Consultancy

Yes, I ignore it. I’m in the office March Madness pool mostly because I love the days my rainmaker comes in and tells me I beat him last night. It’s literally the only way I know how my bracket is doing in the sportsballing.
This is 10/10 no notes
It’s so annoying and yes I just stay quiet and smile until it’s over.
I follow some sports, but yes, this happens and will continue to happen.
I am curious how many hours a week it takes to “keep up with sports” so that you can enthusiastically and with genuine joy participate in these conversations. If someone knows please share. It’s not time I’m willing to give but I’m curious
I would say, ~5 hours between podcasts, watching some games and reading updates on sports. I only really follow NFL, golf, F1 and English Football.
Yes I just smile politely until it’s over
I would rather stab sharp things in my eyes than participate in sports discussions (or read up on it). In my experience, it’s often exclusionary. I let it go for about 60 more seconds and then I change the topic to something everyone can talk about. And I say, talk about what you are interested in. Show up as you, wholly and unapologetically, whether “White Lotus” or something else. And, yes, use 5 mins in a work call to do so. Apart from just being nice to start a call as human first/worker second, some studies/data indicates these conversations are actually the “special sauce” creating connection between people. And if you are not sure why that matters, there’s also research on that. Think trust, deeper relationships = more effective interactions.
I had a call recently where we talked about White Lotus and Severance. Have you tried bringing it up?

I am rarely on calls that start off discussing sports, but I think talking too long about any topic that not everyone is enthusiastic about is a problem. I'd look for the people who aren't into sports and then on the next call, see if you can engage them about something else -if you can politely and non-awkwardly guide the conversation to something generic for them, they'd probably appreciate it.

Just ask ChatGPT about the latest sports stats and shmooze for a bit to help you get noticed during these meetings. You never know what kind of bs the firm will engage in when it’s the old boys club. Sports may be one of those things. It’s dumb and childish to schmooze about sports in the meeting but if AI can help why not use it?

Sounds about right
I follow The Gist and used to get their emails. They send out quick summaries of sports news. Usually, there's a tidbit or two that I keep in my back pocket so I've got at least something to contribute but I'm otherwise not a huge fan of sports.
