Yes and no. Yes, because it allowed me to move from agency to client side which is something I was having a hard time with before my PMP. My salary did also go up by about 30k but to be fair, I was underpaid at my old job so I feel like I would've been able to get that increase even without my PMP
No, because I personally don't think it increased my PM knowledge or made me a better PM.
I have PMP and it was definitely worth it - while I’m not sure if it helped me career-wise (that probably depends a lot on the industry), it tied all of the bits of knowledge I picked up over the years together into one cohesive framework and gave me additional tools.
It’s hard af though, hands down the hardest exam I ever studied for. And it very much annoys me that I’ll have to renew it ad infinitum.
I had been doing PM work for more than 20 years, so studying was really more learning a new vocabulary. Now that I have it, I don't think anything has changed for me. I'm thinking of getting scrum certification because there seem to be more opportunities for people who have both. On the other hand, getting certified is an endless cycle. So.... I'd have to answer no.
