Why did you get an MBA or why are you getting an MBA? Feeling very lost as my ultimate goal is to relocate to my country of origin (developing country) to pursue my entrepreneurial journey (cotd)
Ladies, I need some urgent advice regarding abstinence. My bf and I are Christians and we are trying to be serious about abstaining from sex before marriage. It has been a huge struggle. We have failed so many times and we want to do better. He is going for an MBA soon and we won’t be able to get married till the next 3 years at the minimum. Anyone have any tips on how we can manage this issue 😭 has anyone here successfully done this before ?
Made a dumb mistake two years ago and did my mba at a school outside of the top 25 - how does one recover from this?
At what age (and how many years post-mba if you got one) did you hit $300k TC (salary + bonus/equity). Not counting retirement contributions. Feel free to comment if you’re close or expect to be soon
Poor MBA student should probably have checked the "To" field before sending... I won't hold it against him but thought it was funny
I’m a very lazy and unmotivated employee. Thought going to a top-10 MBA and into consulting would fix me but now I realize it’s not for me. Not sure what to do next. I’m probably too dumb for S&O or internal strategy in industry. I unfortunately have a lot of student loans so I’ve gotten used to a consulting salary, however. Any tips?
Honest question: why are so many consultants interested in an MBA? At least for those in top firms, don’t you feel like you already have many of the skills an mba would teach? And don’t you feel you have the professional experience and reputation to jump to prestigious and high-paying roles post-consulting (whereas many people seem to get an mba specifically to break into top tier consulting or VC/PE)? Wouldn’t a different degree be more beneficial to your education and qualifications?
A prerequisite for MBA admission should be being single. STOP TAKING UP SPOTS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNERS! This is ridiculous - the one place we can find someone, everybody’s already committed
Big milestone for me as I finally crossed $100K income today! It took 10 years + 4 more post-MBA, but I feel like I’m safely middle-class now. Maybe homeownership will be in reach in 5-10 years if prices stabilize 😅
Serious question: do I *need* MBB on my resume to have good exit ops from consulting? I have an M7 MBA, but struggled to land interviews because I didn’t have big brands on my resume (confirmed by recruiters). I wouldn’t be surprised if most/all F100 and FAANG hired MBB only.
What’s the real difference between Tier 1(MBB) and Tier 2(Deloitte,etc.) consulting? I am planning on getting my MBA but would like to know what the main differences are between the two sets of firms
I’m not ashamed to admit that 75% of the reason I’m going to get an MBA is with the hopes of getting an MRS out of it too
If I go to a non-HSW M7, what are my chances of getting a post-MBA offer from MBB? Just looking for offers/applicants numbers (ballpark is okay).
Do you consider 175k total comp with 5 yrs of consulting experience good? I know its not great for mbb....i also dont have an mba
Lmao. Needing to post about how much emotional intelligence you have - who are these cringe lords? And he went to tufts and got his mba from Baruch...
Admitted to Wharton MBA. Attended a welcome event last night and left with a negative impression of several alum. One in particular told me...
People that have gone on to do an MBA at a top 20 school- did you bring your SO? Isn’t the whole point to immerse and establish great relationships? Wouldn’t bringing your SO severely hinder this?
Not to brag, but just crossed 200k annual comp with my raise and bonus this year. Still living in NYC, paying 2k a month in MBA loans, and 1k to support patents, but now feel a little more secure. 😀
After seeing the MBB 80+ work hours post, I’m wondering, is MBB unfriendly to mothers of young children? I was planning on applying after MBA (target school) but now I’m slightly deterred...(cont)
How much do you guys have saved for retirement? Turning 30 soon and had a mini-crisis on If I’m saving enough. For reference, I have $110k in a Roth IRA (did 401k rollover during MBA) and $10k in a 401k. Saw articles that show 1-1.5x salary in retirement by 30, which makes me feel behind the curve?
Firm will sponsor my MBA, but is it worth going? Two years of lost earnings and no additional gain in promotion trajectory. I know an MBA can be a good two year vacation, but I’m not sure if there’s much more value besides that. 🐠 who did / didn’t take the MBA sponsorship, what was your rationale?
Is golfing for business still regular thing or has it fallen out of practice? Especially asking at tier 1 and 2 firms. I have been playing all my life but not sure if I should take it more seriously as I start MBA.
I am leaving consulting but my wife is looking at applying when she finishes her executive MBA. She did a PhD and her current job is low effort (her words). She is convinced that consulting or a very successful corporate career (c suite) can be achieved in 40 hours a week. I dont think this is realistic in 95% of situations, including ours. We both want strong careers and need to allocate enough time / out source house work. How can I stress that her expectations are way off? Or am I off base?
I just don’t understand the hype around getting an MBA. Unless someone is going to pay for it, is the pay bump really worth the debt?
Is it ok to list your GPA a tiny bit above where it is on MBA/job applications (jobs only if they require it) to make a cutoff? For reference, my GPA is 3.498, can I list 3.5?
(24M) Help on finding a career path ? I graduated from Boston University with a degree in comm w/ a concentration in advertising. Ive been in the industry for almost a year as a media planner, and have generally enjoyed it. My biggest issue though is the money. I didn’t go into the field expecting to get rich, but it would be nice to not live in poverty...Im considering going back to school to get an MBA in marketing as I feel this will complement my work experience and UG degree. (cont.)
I know imposter syndrome has been discussed a lot here and it’s something I’m working through. A girl in my MBA class told me “Of course you’re good at giving presentations-you’re pretty and blonde.”
25m. Consulting for 3 years. I got into a top 10 mba program for the fall, so normally a no brainer. With covid I’m not sure. Is there any benefit to an mba if it’s all online? Firm isn’t paying (and haven’t told them - I’m at a boutique so I’d have to quit) and no indication it’s it’s online or not. Very anxious about having to decide. What are others thinking?
Go to college, work for 1-2 years, get MBA, get married, have children, work the career ladder, DIE! I refuse to repeat this pattern. 2020+ I’m living my own life. Viva la millennials 😂!!!!!
What do I have to do to get into consulting? I’m willing to do whatever it takes (23 with MSA and MBA from top 100 school (Northeastern)
If anyone wants to study for the CFE but doesn’t want to pay the full price for the study materials and would be interested to split it, please DM me
What should be the next certification that I should get? I have the CFE. I’m targeting the CFCS and the ACAMS as the next ones that I should get. Any thoughts on which one I should get 1st? Pros/Cons
Folks with Marketing email specialist cert; other than test dumps and trailheads, any other materials? how long did you study for?
Been wanting to get back into studying for CPA exam. Which section should I start off with? I know this is on a person to person basis but just wanted to hear your thoughts . Ty!
Any recommendations on certifications similar to CFE, but focuses on systems or data to identify fraud?
I have a CPA and I am thinking of getting the CMA as well. Not ready to go into industry yet but I wanted to see if someone else has gotten the CMA, CPA designations and whether it was worth it.
I’m really struggling with having motivation to study for the CPA exam. Did you do anything along the way to keep yourself motivated and set a routine?
Want to go into environmental stuff, whether it be ESG finance, green projects, or anything else. Apart from trying to get assigned to relevant projects, is there anything else I could be doing to get exposure in this field? I read odd research here and there but don’t know what I can do proactively. I.e. is that new ESG certification by CFA association a legit thing worth spending money for, or just another money grabbing scheme?
I finally passed the CPA Exam!! Thanks for the tips on here. Multiple tips helped me out. Biggest tip I have for passing is mindset in the exam. Do not quit if you miss a few questions. Believe in you
Does anyone else feel like they don’t deserve to be where they’re at? I constantly feel under qualified in my position and when looking at other roles in the market (fp&a, financial analyst, etc), i feel i won’t be able to succeed. Do i have major imposter syndrome or am i just not cut out for anything highly technical
Looking for some inputs on when to jump the ship to industry side? Have been told that spending too long might make it difficult to find a suitable role. Joined EY as experienced hire.
I’m getting sick of living in a city. What’s a good midsize town, liberal, good schools. Anywhere in the us? Good weather would be nice
If you wanted to do your MBA what would be the implications on your employment? Are you able to do night class or take a leave of absence for a period of time?
I’ve joined the league of Covid layoffs. I was in an Art Director role with an experiential agency. I’d love to move into a more strategy focused role next — any advice on how best to pivot?
The math and language arts teachers always give me the "stay in your lane" when I review a math or writing topic in my science class. They act like there is no math or language arts in science.
Fav tech sites to learn more/help with your career? Recently entered the workforce and want to keep up!
How about this to kick things off? What typically are the biggest factors in choosing at directors... budget, reel, conference call, experience in category, worked with her before?
Hey F&B brand managers what are some clever ways you've been sampling to your consumers? Most of our products are alcoholic and with bars closed and no sampling at liq stores, been challenging for sure. Working with influencers, online virtual conferences (happy hour), etc. Love to get some inspiration from you all.
I’m interested in getting into IoT. Do you need a mix of hardware/software skills? Any suggestions for good places to start?
Any advice on the best place to put funds I eventually plan to use for a backdoor Roth? Do I just put them in a traditional IRA every month and then roll it? Or do I put it somewhere else?
