Desi fam - what are your views on Indian matchmaking? Is it perpetuating outdated stereotypes regarding the role of men/women and their expectations or is matchmaking the right approach for a majority of desis - be they in India or overseas?

So, I was watching The Indian matchmaking show today (Netflix famous / infamous 😂)
Just wanted to know if you also binged it
I personally loved it as I enjoy of Reality Drama
and also got to know how different and difficult Indian society is.
If you haven't I will recommend it for all people in this bowl

Why is everyone here so triggered by the White Tiger? That’s how the majority of India lives, please get outside your white collar bubbles. And stop saying “the media always shows poverty”, they also released shows like Bollywood Wives and Indian Matchmaking.

I’m finally watching Indian matchmaking - and honestly I think this style of introducing people based on families, matchmaker should be way more common. So many people make terrible partner choices. More Sima Aunties!

10 min into the first episode of Indian matchmaking. Totally hooked! Super interesting

30 m ny/nj. US citizen. Moved as a teenager. INTJ. Single since I figured I’m not fighting the biological clock and have all the time in the world to meet someone and get settled. Things changed after I watched Akshay’s mom (Indian Matchmaking) tell him even 25 is too late and not marrying somehow messes up lives of people around him. While the show was staged, there might be truth to the latter part.

So I’m late to the Indian Matchmaking series. Is it the guy who has to be wealthy and the women who need to come from wealth? There doesn’t seem to be a lot of emphasis on what the women do for a living, but the men all seem either well-off or getting called losers. Is that what people look for in real life too? So there’s no place for women on the come up to be with someone above their own social class?

Watching the Indian Matchmaking on Netflix. Every other minute a guy or his parents are asking for "fair skin." 🤦
PS: I am not Indian and really don't want to offend anyone, but I think this is not a positive messaging for young girls.

Anyone watching Indian Matchmaking? Aparna and her mother have to be the worst, right? She thinks she's a godsend and quite frankly she looks like a potato, is ignorant, doesn't sound nearly as intelligent as she professes to be, and is even more negative than I am! That's gotta say something.
