3% is pretty great in this economy. At my company, that's what we will give this year to our solid performers who are doing their job well.
Thanks for sharing this information. It makes it easier for me to move positively from this situation.

Honestly anything in the review including feedback should not be a suprise. If something negative comes up and this is the first time hearing about it then consider finding a new company where you receive continuous feedback and can adjust accordingly to grow.
Thank you for the reply. I am disappointed that I was given only 3% raise. That felt so wrong and insulting. This was not expected. I cannot even raise my concerns. I am not cribbing about the raise but there was no quantitative evidence, the feedback which I received was qualitative.
Write some bullet points setting out your key achievements in the last 3-6 months, and a summary of any feedback received. That'll remind you if you forget what to say. Also think about your goals for the next 3-6 months and what help you may need to achieve those goals.
Thanks a lot for this reply. It helps me to direct my thoughts.

If you get any feedback you don’t like/offends you, try not to argue/ defend yourself in the moment— take it, write it down and say thank you for this feedback. Then go and really think about the feedback. If you see any concerns or want to discuss that further schedule a follow up to get more clarity.
Take it from me I tried to defend myself and it ended up ruining the rest of the review for both of us, better to just take it all down in notes and don’t let any negative emotions creep in.
Thanks a lot
You might ask someone who has been around longer if there is a standard format to the review. My first review I was surprised to be asked, "How did you think the year went?" and didn't have a good answer ready. Also should have brought a notebook to take notes lol.
Now I'm ready every time but if I had asked someone else I would have known.
Thank you for the reply. My manager didn’t ask me how my year went, she gave me a letter noting my feedback (all qualitative) I wanted a quantitative assessment. And after that she asked me to read and tell my comments on the feedback. That’s all it was… I don’t know if that’s what the style of review is.
OK so at least you now know how your firm works. Was the feedback you received fair and balanced? If it was, then that's a good start! Re the pay rise, the % really depends on where you were starting at - if you are towards the top end of the band for your role, then the % will be smaller. The economy has changed in the last few months, and so be pleased you got a rise. If you were a low performer, you'd have got no rise at all (and lots of people are being let go). It's unrealistic that pay will keep pace with inflation, which is hard to take but most firms cannot afford it. You've done ok - look to develop for the next promotion!
