How much do we really need in order to retire? I am 41 and have 2M in stocks/cash and fully own my apt (3M). I have no outstanding debt and ready to find an exit.
Is the 50-50 male-female hiring rule fair? In many offices the applicants are 80-20, thus women are 4 times more likely to make it. Isn’t this the definition of discrimination?
Womxn in consulting: can you share stories where you were obviously passed up for a role or project or otherwise unfairly treated due to being a womxn?
The exit sign on my United flight came off and hit me in the head/neck. 😢 Has this happened to anyone? Happy fly day, folks!
a recruiter reached out asking if I was interested in an accounting role with a 60k salary (I have 5 YoE). anyone have any similar clueless recruiter stories?
Who signs up to be HR? Is it just people who couldn’t get another job or are some people genuinely passionate about it? I just can’t imagine why anyone would want to be a HR person, it sounds like a miserable role.
Had to sit down & explain to my coworkers how the referral system at firms is discriminatory. If 60%+ of your workforce is white, likely 60% of your total referrals will be white
Does anyone here have a side hussle? What do you do? Salary isn't cutting it and I'm not in a position to change jobs right now. I need to save money this year and could use the extra $$
Does anyone here actually get off of work at 5pm consistently? If so, what company are you at and what role? I’m so tired of working 12-16 hour days. Looking for a company with great Work Life Balance. Any suggestions?
I’ve heard you only find the best exit opportunities to startups once you start letting your network know you’re looking. How do you do that while not compromising your trajectory at your job if you’re not looking to leave immediately but want to know what’s out there?
Some days, I daydream about going to industry, hiring consultants, and then being the worst to the partners and the best to the poor BAs
NYC or SF? 25 yo female who loves city life but also craves outdoor adventures. Looking to also exit consulting at some point in the next few years
I just declined an offer. They have been on calls with me for a month begging me to join (but the position has only 20k salary hike). I’m staying in D as I see myself some potential here even though I only got 3000 salary increase. I hope I’m making a good decision 😫
Why do so many 🐠 seem to hate the profession but continue to do it? I personally have no complaints and feel privileged to be able to do what we do. Plenty of ppl would kill to be in our position.
The first person to mention salary expectations in a recruiter call loses. If you ask a recruiter what the position's salary range is, and they ask you in turn what your expectations are, what can you respond with?
Just sent a resume for a referral to HR and he answered me “sorry we have targets so for a few months we will hire only women”. Thoughts?
Wrapping up my first and prob last yr with D just because I’ve been on the bench for 2 months and expect the axe any day now so thought this would be the perfect time to share how it all went. Coming in with a technical background to a “cyber risk” role I was expecting work that would need at least a basic understanding of tech related concepts like IoT, machine learning, cyber security best practices, etc and an ability to explain those concepts with rapport to business people from diff fields.
I have an exit opp with a 30% increase. I should be grateful, especially to have a life raft when more layoffs are likely incoming, but all I feel is grief. Grief at leaving consulting, at having to move geographies. I don’t want to accept an offer when this is how I feel, even if the offer seems to make logical sense. How do I know what to do?
Any thoughts on transitioning to medical school after 2 years of consulting? Realizing I want to be in a role where I’ll have more hard skills and a clear path
❤️❤️good news post! ❤️❤️ I’m an experienced hire and I managed to network my way into finding the right people that can leverage my skills and put me in a role that I love! 2020 sucks, but here’s a little hope 🥰 YAYYYYYYYYY!
I’ve finally made a decision to exit in December 2020, regardless of whether or not I have something else lined up. Before you ask: I’m in my mid-20s, no dependents, no student loans, HCOL, and have enough saved up to fund 6 months of funemployment. I’m committed to this decision and excited to share it!
I just got laid off. Actively on a project, level 10 S&C, chargability at 85% but almost 8 percent recoverable on top of that. Have to look for a job now. Anyone hiring? Thanks all! I’ve had a great time here!
Group identity should not take precedent over individual identity. By grouping people into these boxes based on skin color or otherwise, by nature you segregate them. Obviously we all belong to these groups but group identity now seems to be taking precedent over individual identity and it looks like it is not equality people like that want, it's power. If you are a proponent of having hiring quotas you de facto accept that group identity is more important than individual identity.
Current firm is offering me $450MM to stay for 12 years. May be an opportunity to renegotiate or leave towards the back end - I haven’t read the fine print. But it is a Tier 3 City and I’m not how the exit opportunities will be. What do you guys think? Solid offer or should I hold out for something better?
Projecting to do somewhere around $200k in revenue this year across my e-commerce side gigs. Seriously considering following this passion full time and quitting consulting. Lack of “stable” income is frightening but I have confidence in myself to make it work. Is there anything I should seriously consider before making this leap that I may have overlooked? If all goes poorly with my plan, will it theoretically be easy to get back into a similar consulting role? All advice is welcome.
Salary negotiation advice needed. Just had an interview at a competitive big 4 for a higher role and was asked my numbers, was told it was too high (despite it being within the known salary band) and was given a counter offer 50k lower than what I asked for and was told to think about it over the weekend - the figure would be a significant pay cut and isn't an option. How much lower would you go from your original number?
Philosophical question: Has McKinsey’s brand diminished in luster? Context: Randomly was at a church picnic (socially distanced) with some baby boomer era former MBB consultants. When they found out I was in consulting (big 4), they weirdly started talking about how McKinsey’s brand value wasn’t what it used to be to clients and for exit opportunities. Silly gripes or true?
Is it worth putting Cum Laude on a resume when you’re 3 years out of school? Went to a school that didn’t grade-inflate but not sure it’s worth putting. targeting mid - top tier industry exit opps
I’m currently making 60k in industry in a LCoL area and was offered 120k to move across country for a new role. Would I be crazy to turn that down to be closer to the people I love (fam/friends)?
How long is your resume? My significant other works for the Gov’t and is reviewing 10-18 page resumes as part of a hiring panel. I told him that mine is 1 page. He said that I’m wrong. 😂
What’s the difference in the types of exit opps between MBB and B4 consultants? Is the gap really as big as people make it or does it mainly come down to networking, relevant skills, and luck?
I was told I’m being let go soon, and performance was not a factor. Really sketchy...I’ve spent about a year with the firm, and really not sure what to do now. Which firms are hiring/open to someone with 1 YOE in strategy consulting?
How many of u have 1-2 colleagues in your team that r full of sh1t? Mine said s/he hates the work that my role entails and then secretly went to one of my bosses to ask for work related to my role lol
Interested in transitioning into being a compensation analyst. Does anyone know someone who has done this before? Do you think it is a good career? How hard would it be to land a role from audit?
To the Copywriter who thought no big deal about ads on Breitbart 🙄. Here's a sampling of two recent titles from their site: “There’s No Hiring Bias Against Women In Tech, They Just Suck At Interviews
Got dinged after a job interview and was told by the recruiter verbatim that the reason is I wasn’t outgoing enough. This was for a product manager role, not sales or anything...cont.
6th year CRE associate at a fairly large firm (400+) thinking about leaving the firm when/if things ever get back to somewhat normal. I've done mostly acquisitions and leasing work. What are the best paths for a CRE associate law exit? Where would you suggest I focus my efforts?
Has anyone here moved out of advertising into a product marketing manager role? Any advice on how to play up your transferable skills?
What’s the average rate for a post production manager in NYC? I’ve only worked this role in digital media companies and usually got $350/day. Would $500/day be outrageous in the agency world?
What are some examples of exit opportunities for a software engineer in consulting? I don’t necessarily want to move into a SE role at a tech firm. I enjoy a lot of the people aspects of my role - agile coaching etc.
Has anyone left an ad agency (in house or other marketing related position) and then come back? Is it difficult to be considered for a position equivalent to if you had stayed in the agency world?
Interviewing for an industry role that wants me to asses capital investment models for expansion. How and what can I do to prepare this? As a manager involved in capital expansion, how would you go about developing cash flow forecasts etc?
Just applied for a manager role at a smaller sized company and they sent an email for a group interview the following day. Are group interviews normal? Feels odd.
If hear department of sanitation for my city has a field manager position open. Pay is about 140k. I'm gonna apply.
Due to a recent event, I’m looking to go back into a staff role. I’ve been fairly busy as a freelancer CD/ACD/writer, but it’s just not been consistent enough in the last 6-9 mos...

Anyone here with experience interviewing for a Program Manager position at Fitbit or other tech firms? From description it seems to be focused on supply chain and I want to understand the key things they would be looking for from past experience so as to prepare the right stories for the interview.
Currently at MBB (post mba) with an offer in FAANG in fin ops (170k) and in a PE backed company (210k) in their transformation office. Which to take? What kind of exits are there in transformation?

Hi fellow fish, what sites would you recommend to look for a rental property for 3-4 months in Miami?
@MBB do you similarly have to meet a quota for firm/internal initiatives (including CSR, business development, recruiting etc)? or is that reserved for bench/beach time in-between projects?
When your client is a 30 year old trust fund baby and you have to let him talk about his weekend at his parents house in the Hampton’s for 20 minutes...
A Juneteenth Miracle: The day before, my so-called leader tried to mansplain design to me after I went out of my way to get something done in 2.5 hours that typically takes 1-2 days. Needless to say, your girl was HOT. Reinforced my boundaries and logged off! Took the day to reflect & celebrated all weekend. After many YEARS of searching, I was offered a creative manager position on Sat. w/ a 20% pay raise 😱 Gave my 2- (really one 🤭) week notice this Monday after a VERY Black OOO message 👸🏽
