Two very different financial models. I started in an outpatient clinic, and the pay was great, but the workload was intense. Pressure in billing, and then I was constantly pushed to market for myself. Made the switch to the hospital, and it’s worked better for me even though I’m making a bit less. This can all change a lot based on the individual places, but that was my experience. Curious to hear if others had something different or similar.
Yeah, I've noticed the exact same thing. It's frustrating how much the setting swings the pay for basically the same kind of caseload and patient interactions. Outpatient clinics (especially private ones or standalone) often pay more on paper, with BLS data showing outpatient care centers averaging around $123,900 annually, while hospital-based roles (even outpatient within a hospital system) hover lower, like $104,520 or so in general medical hospitals. But then you dig into Reddit threads and APTA reports, and it's messy. Some hospital outpatient gigs actually pay better due to union scales, better benefits, or stability, while private clinics can push higher base but with production pressure.
