Affordable? You’re in the wrong state.

Seriously....its so expensive to live here.

A lot of nice areas but nothing is really affordable.

There is no room anymore. Place is already full at max capacity with all you transplants. Just stay in da Midwest/east coast

Pacific Beach is #1, North Park also very popular. East Village might be more affordable than the other two, however I think that area and downtown in general is just not as nice post-COVID. I would say all are safe. I used to live downtown and felt totally safe, but as I said above, it’s still recovering and a little grittier than it used to be.

Seriously. I remember in high school (2002) I worked at Horton Plaza. One night I was taking Harbor to Caesar Chavez to hop on the 5 to Chula Vista and got a flat tire. Cop saw me changing my tire, I explained I was coming from work, and sat there with the high beam on me because they didn’t want to leave me there alone as they knew I’d probably be stepped up to.

Now it’s like cute brunch spots and such.

Depends on what affordable means and what kind of activities you tend to do.

Beyond some of the recs already given I would say Little Italy (probably categorize as mid 20’s-mid 30s)
Lots of great bars and restaurants. Lively. Farmers market and other events.

And will through OB out there as well. Beach community and lots of bars. Not my vibe, but plenty of other peoples

I would not do East Village. I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment there for a year. It was cool until all of the homelessness and crime really got to me. I now live in Mission Valley and love it. I get a lot more bang for my buck. I’m right by the fashion valley mall so I can still walk to restaurants, bars and shops. I have good amenities and the location is very central to everything. PB, DT, North Park, La Jolla are all 10 min away. This is coming from a 29 year old female 😊 I want to move to Little Italy eventually, but want to wait another year or 2 until I can afford a nice place over there b/c it’s a lot more expensive

This is good to know as I am currently looking for a new place. My lease is about to be up and the rent raises have just gotten so ridiculous

I loved living in North Park. Other than petty theft (bikes, package theft), it felt safe to me as a single woman.

Marina District in Downtown. Not grime-y like East Village/North Park/PB, and not crowded like Little Italy/Fashion Valley. Walkable to groceries, restaurants/bars, Gaslamp, East Village, Little Italy, etc.

I love Ocean Beach!

Encinitas

I think the first thing to do is to find a roommate. It will save you a lot of money! Then you can have more options. I would recommend PB for your twenties.

I feel like I'm at my wits end. I teach self-contained classes and according to the ISBE website my classes shouldn't be more than 8 students unless I have an aide - then it can be 10. I have no aide and most of my classes are around 14 kids. Some with behavior plans that are only out of our behavior room setting for my class... Is anybody else out there going through illegal class sizes for self-contained? How are you dealing? Maybe a vent session is in order.
