I wouldn’t limit yourself to only roles where you’re 100% qualified—that can put you in a very small box. Start applying for positions where you’re at least 75% qualified and see what opportunities come your way.

I don’t think being a perfect match helps as much as we're all told it would. A lot of roles already have an internal candidate, or they are posted because HR has to post them. I’ve applied to jobs where I checked every box and never heard back, then got interviews for stretch roles I almost skipped. It feels less about perfection and more about timing and who happens to open your resume that day.

Being a paper match is not enough. Timing, internal referrals, hiring urgency, and volume matter more. Target fewer roles, build direct manager contact, and adjust positioning, not just keywords.
You are cutting your opportunities in half, at least. You should be applying jobs that you’re 70-80% qualified for. Waiting for roles your perfect for is never going to work out for you.
