It’s helpful when things come with due dates that’s for sure. Usually what’s the most important to me is whatever is the most important to my direct manager. It just makes my life easier that way.
Start with the part that will take the most time. Get it rolling. Suppose you need quotes and you know it'll take days or weeks to get them back. Sit down, shoot out those requests. That's checked off for now. Next thing, etc. Also prioritize anything that someone may come sniffing around for so you have that ready to go and aren't forced to stop working on another part to take care of that.
Also, I find once you just grab one thing, the rest will come naturally. You'll quickly see what the closest related piece is and move on to that and so on and so on.
White boards are GREAT for this.
