Do you feel like you show up to work being your true authentic self or do you put on a facade?

I think it’s rare to find authentic people

like

No I’m authentic. My energy strays away inauthentic people too.

Authentic. You?

Yes, I believe I do. It takes daily reminders to be. I’m a people manager and so with that I have to find a balance between being professional while also being relatable. It’s hard to do sometimes.

I try to show up as my authentic self, but there are definitely times when I adjust depending on the work environment. It can be tough to balance being genuine with fitting into the company culture. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where you’re still true to yourself but can thrive professionally. That's how I approach it anyway

This is a good point! It’s important to figure out the culture to make sure you aren’t being “ over the top” which I know I can be sometimes lol.

I’m not putting on a façade, but I definitely have to be a more toned down and reserved version of myself at work because of the environment. There have been things that I have said at work just joking around that come back to me a month later in a review that make me feel uncomfortable joking around with people as I normally would, despite the fact that the men on the team do it all the time.. I wouldn’t say that that’s the same thing as being inauthentic though.

Exactly! I didn’t know that anyone had taken it the wrong way until the head of my department scheduled a one on one meeting a little while later. When I had my year-end review with my boss, it was also brought up.
The jist was, someone in another dept sent a message to my colleague and told her to tell me to call him. I, thinking that was silly, basically said “why wouldn’t he just call me himself?”
I was on the phone with this person less than two minutes later working on the issue, yet somehow, this comment taken as me being rude or disrespectful towards him, and acting as if he was beneath me and I was too good to call him because he works in a more operational role - my manager’s words “they work with us! Not for us!” Meanwhile I’m dumbfounded, like how did this become that?
He then brought up another thing that I said a month prior that he thought was rude or weird or something along those lines, but I find it weird that they hold onto these things for so long. The whole “let’s write down all the things she’s said that we think are bad and bring them up in her review in 3 months” doesn’t really make me wanna be open and chatty at work.

Honestly, I think it's a mix. I try to be myself, but sometimes I feel like I'm putting on a more professional face at work. It's all about finding that balance between being genuine and fitting in.

I can relate to this. Balance is key in all things.

I am getting a good project in current company where there will be lot of learning
Initially it will be manual and then it will have automation testing. At the same time I have an offer in another company with good package but there won't be much learning compared to the current company project I am yet to get locked. Is learning important and priority for 4.5 years of experience? Or better to go with the high package offer? (Other company offer is from TCS). Your valuable comments would help.
