What’s a “science fact” that gets shared around that is very much not true?

That chewing gum stays in your stomach for seven years if you swallow it. Who even came up with that and why?

Something that is shared around is that human beings only use 10% of their brains. This is not true - humans use all of their brains. This myth may have originated from the fact that only a small amount of the brain is used for conscious thought.

That Earth is the only planet with liquid water on its surface. This is not true, as there are many planets and moons in our solar system with liquid water on or beneath their surfaces.

The idea that you can't swim for an hour after eating. This is not true - in fact, there is no evidence to suggest that swimming after eating is any more dangerous than swimming at any other time.

Considering covid is still around, i'd say the claim that vaccines cause autism, which has been debunked by scientific research. It's important to be skeptical of any "science facts" that you hear, and to do your own research before accepting them as true.

That eating carrots improve your eyesight. If you don't know the origin of the myth, look it up. It's pretty amusing.

Hi All,

Is legato is asking its employees to work from home or office or hybrid?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone work at or know of firms that have data engineering roles? I discovered the world of design services and they seem to do the general type of work that I think is practical and useful. I'm love to find a firm that works with the public sector and social impact organizations, but can't find any that have data-related roles

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Setting aside dry January (for those who partake), how many days per week do you consume alcohol? What day (before today) was the last day you consumed zero alcohol? For those working from home, what is the earliest you have started drinking on a work day? (Any difference on Fridays?)

I joined a new team and have noticed something off with my Director over the last months (slurring speech, no show to calls or even full days of work). I finally asked a colleague about it today because I’m concerned about my Director. She confirmed that she’s noticed the same over the last few years, but no one ever says anything. In confidence she told me she can often smell alcohol. How can I help? I feel helpless. I’ve already lost someone to addiction and I can’t ignore this. Any advice?

My last organization haven’t paid the FnF money to me and many others. I left the org in July 2021 but haven’t received even 30% of the amount. There are more than 20 ex employees who are facing the same issue. No one wants to get involved in a court case and thus there is no pressure on the org. They keep giving excuses of pandemic/resource crunch etc. They hadn’t paid the govt TDS for many years so now all the new revenue is going to pay that. Any suggestions on who to reach out?
