Does anyone know how the salary structures at META and Amazon work?

My friend just received an offer and told me they offer their candidates salaries for roles based on years of experience. So, if a wide range is posted, they have range within that range for senior candidates, principal, mid level, practitioners, etc.

Would love to hear further insights on this.
